DH & I have recently started the ever-slow process of infertility. I've been BBT charting for 6 months and it clearly shows I ovulate on day 14 or 15 and consistently have 28 or 29 day cycles. This month my dr. ordered a blood test on day 21 (which will be Father's Day) - however day 14 showed a one-day spike in temp, but then has been back down to the original temps - no clear sign of ovulation this month and I'm on day 19.
I'm not sure what all the blood test will be looking for or if it can see whether or not I Ov'd, but I don't think I did this month - what are they chances and why did my body choose this month to be irregular? I'm interested to see if my cycle is still 28 days or not. Hmmm. Anyway, just thought I'd see if anyone knows if they are looking for signs of ovulation with the CD 21 blood test?

If you are ttc naturally, with no medical assistance, it is very normal to not ovulate from time to time. The CD 21 test usually checks your hormone levels to see if they are sufficient to support a pregnancy should one have occurred. I don't know how many days you should spike in temp. It's been almost 10 years since I charted that stuff... I thought I used to spike and then it goes down a little, and is steady until it drops again when AF is coming. ??

Thanks for your response. I was just about to stop temping because I have been so regular and I found out what I wanted to know - that I do ovulate & have regular cycles. I'll probably stop anyway, since we're just about to start working with our Dr. for infertility. I did my blood test today, and DH will do his semenalysis tomorrow, and our first appt is next Friday. We'll see what news it brings.

Hi,
Day 21 blood test measures your progesterone levels. It allows them to see if you did ovulate and if you your lining is thick enough to support implantation and pregnancy. My RE advised me to not chart using BBT b/c he said that it is a constant daily reminder of infertility and that can cause stress...which inturn can hinder conception. He told me to use Ovulation Predictor Tests. I start using them day 11 thru day 18 but I am taking medication to induce ovulation within that time period. The one he said is most accurate is Clear Blue Easy Digital Read. It is a little more pricy about $35 but very easy to use. It is a circle for no LH surge and a cute smiley face when you have your LH surge. The best time to check is between 2 and 6 in the evening. I hope that helps. Good luck at your appointment!!!!

Thank you koukla3. The funny thing is, I was literally just about to stop BBT charting because I was so very regular - and that's all I needed to know. I think I'll stop anyway, as soon as we find out what the test results are for my Day 21 blood test and DH's semen sample. We go in on June 30th, can't wait to hopefully start to hear something - anything.
Personally, I'm thinking that there may be tubal blockage on my right side from my Ectopic pg. It kind of feels like I usually ovulate on that side (not that I know for sure), and if there is tubal scarring from the surgury that is blocking the tube, that could be a very good reason why we're not getting pg. We'll see.
