I have been reading that autonomic nervous system testing is important for diabetics because cardiac autoneuropathy can be detected before onset. Sounds like this could be important for prevention of heart related difficulties common to diabetics. The only test I could find is something called ansar (www.ans-hrv.com). My doctor has never heard of it. Has anyone had any kind of assessment of their autonomic nervous system?

I do know that there is no single test for it. The cardiologist does a tilt test and it gives him an idea and a then it's completely subjective. It's very hard to treat.

I agree with dizzy...there's no one test for autonomic neuropathy. Usually they start testing for it depending on the symptoms. Autonomic neuropathy can affect the stomach's ability to process food (delayed emptying), the intestines, the blood vessels and blood pressure, the heart, the lungs, etc.

The best prevention is tight control of blood sugar levels. By the time you've got symptoms, it's usually too late to reverse it, and all you can do is try to prevent if from becoming worse. The way to do that is....tight control of blood sugars!
