Hello:
Glad i found this forum. my problem is that i went to a new dentist for a filling, back upper right area which was going to be a silver filling. the problem is that it fell out that very evening when i tried to floss. and now they can't see me til monday.

it seemed that he did it very fast to me and didn't do the procedures i seem to recall other dentists doing on me. like checking the bite and using that aluminum foil paper stuff to grind down upon and then polish it up. On visual inspection when i first got home it didn't look right to me. it wasn't really silvery or polished and then it fell out literally hours after being there. this had never happened to me before and i do have maybe eight other fillings or more in my life.

my question: what should i exactly look for when he is redoing it? or what should i say or implore him to do properly?

Hope someone could write me. Please

You could ask him why he thinks it fell out, he might be insulted if you seem accusatory.

When you floss, you should rub it in a shoe shining motion around the tooth. up and down can cause food to the packed into the gum, or it can slice into your gum, but the "C" action actually wipes stuff off the tooth and doesn't pull out dental work :D

Also, new amalgam (silver) fillings don't appear all that shiny or silver right away.

well, I got the new filling in today. kind of weird though because it looks like it just about completely covers the space through which one should be able to floss, like lops over to the other tooth. too afraid to floss yet, maybe tomorrow. what should i do?

hi again,

Refer to the flossing method previously posted. I'd really want to know if I could even get floss through! And don't forget to pull the floss through the space instead of up or down. We don't want to have to see the dentist again! ;)

The filling should have set within the hour of having it done. I'm curious as to why it sounds like it is different than the first one. Did the dentist drill more?
