Hi there, i have not been here in a while due to moving house and work and having kind of a break from TTC, any how, i have my last Fertility Specialist Appointment on Monday and im not sure what to expect, i do know that she wants to discuss IVF but what else, do they schedule it there and then
Any advise would be helpful and also info on the procedure, i have read the leaflet they gave me but its not as in depth as i would like.
Thankyou in advance :)

I'm sorry, sammie (that no one has said anything). I'm in the process of trying 3 rounds of IUI (if #2 didn't work) and I only know a little about IVF from the women posting here.
But since no one has said anything, I'll toss this out: I think some of what happens next will depend on where you're at with your cycle. From what I've seen they will tentatively say the date you'll start FSH injections after a period of suppression, then the ER, and then the ET some days after that (I think it depends on your RE's protocol). I've seen some different protocols with the British docs. Did you already try IUI? I am wondering this b/c then some of the process will be similar. And there may be other things you have to decide on b/c of IVF -- how many embies to transfer and if you want to freeze any (if you have any 'extras') in case the first IVF doesn't work...
Good luck! Baby wishes your way.

Just A - Thankyou for your reply, they didnt really tell me much last time and i cant remember much as it was back in Janusry and i was supposed to see them in April but unfortunately they changed the appointment and i was out of the country so had to re-schedule.
The iui they said would not be an option for me though i cant remember why they said my best option would be ivf and that i should not get my hopes up as it doesnt all ways work, they havent told me how much it may cost if the first one fails (that one is free on th NHS) but they are soon to bring in the rule that you can have 3trys on ivf for free and then you have to pay.
I hope this iui has worked for you and will keep you in my thoughts, good luck, i shall keep you posted as to what happens.
Baby dust to everyone ;)

sammiep, when my dr recommended ivf we had a few things we had to do first. a hysteroscopy with cultures, a visit to their pyschologist, and they ordered our meds (which are different for every dr) and we had an injection teaching class... and the cycle before ivf on day 20 they sometimes due a mock transfer.. like just a said, it depends where u are in ur cycle... so if it is before day 20 they might schedule all that stuff within the next few weeks etc., like for me and dh now that all this is completed (minus the mock transfer) my mock is day 20 of this cycle, and then when i get af in july i will go for a day 3 u/s and then on day 20 another u/s and i will start lupron, then u get another af 8-14 days later and then u start the stims and i think er ~ 10 days later.. i know some women go on bcp too... so if ur dr says u start with ur august cycle er/et wont be until sept... i hope i helped in some way... gooood luck.. :bouncing: :bouncing:

Well, i am now officially on the ivf waiting list, they recon it will be 3-4months max, the only problem we have is the county i am in is trying to stop your first ivf try free (it is offered by the NHS but you get one try only) all because they have overspent this last year and so WE have to suffer! :(
The specialist recons though if we are on the list they should hopefully have to treat us because we were on it before the rules came into place. Hopefully though they will reconcider and carry on as is.
Either way i am a step closer than i was yesterday and so that is good news, all i can do now is wait :D
Thankyou ladies for your info and good luck :)

Hi Sammie,
Hope your specialist has clarified things a bit more for you now. I've had 2 IVF attempts. I would recommend 2 books that might help you:
'Your essential Infertility companion' by Anna Furse, Thorsons ISBN 0 00 711954 2
'The IVF Revolution' by Professor Robert Winston, Vermilion, ISBN 0 09 186339 2
I found both really helpful and both discuss proceedures and option at British clinics/with the NHS.
Good luck with everything.
