I just had it done, going in this Wed to do other procedures. My dentist said its going to cost about 900 for the root canal. He also stated he would like to put a crown on it. It sounded really high for a root canal, is that price including a crown? If not, I am screwed...

I payed 200 for root cannal alone, I have an insurance who payed about 1000. Best thing you can do is talk to your dentist and set up a payment plan if it is not too late. I went to separate specialist for root cannal.

I was recently quoted $800 for a root canal on a molar. That did not include the crown.

If they weren't saving my teeth I would ask god to smite them... I better harp my mom to get her damn health insurance paperwork at her job finished already.

Did your dentist asked you for insurance information or if your insurance changed before appointment? Was you covered under your mother's insurance before the appointment? Sorry but you can ended up having nasty fight with insurance, dentist and ended up paying whole amount.
On another subject my dentist sends me to root cannal specialist who has special equipment dentist doesn't have. I've heard a lot of complains when dentist does these procedures instead of specialist, hopefully he did a good job.

He seems to have done a good job. He had all the equipment that was needed from my research on the internet. I'm sure if he wasn't sure he would have recommended a specialist. Well the probelm is my mom's health insurance supposedly isnt going to be active for another 3 months, but her boss told her it would be effective june 1st but now her office manager is saying something different, so she is going to talk to them today. My university offers very little coverage for root canals and major dental work. which sucks.

Okay I got my bill, I was charged for root canal and filling on tooth code 16, im assuming the tooth i got the root canal on. that was about 750, but then now it shows root canal on tooth code 15. Unless they knocked me out and I totally forgot, I didnt get two root canals, and thats another 400 bucks. So what the hell... this doesnt make sense, unless one tooth shares two canals or shares two tooth code numbers. I am not paying for a root canal that never happened. I better call him.

Yeah... definitely check on that. It could just be a glitch in the paperwork. My root canal on a premolar (so fewer roots, and therefore less expensive than a molar...) was about $600, and then another $600 for the crown. They don't come cheap!

My dh was told by HR that our dd will be included into his dental insurance. Then we found out that she actually didn't and we had to pay out of the pocket for a visit. I wouldn't trust all these "oral" promises.
You can call dentist just in case but it is possible that bill is correct, we can't check what dentist actually did, we have to trust. May be he used certain codes to bill insurance.
