Actually there are different types of implant supported teeth. Dentures and what I have which is a prosthesis (which is similar to a denture but not made out of just acrylic) Some of the implant supported dentures use a type of snap device where the teeth snap onto the implants and snap off to clean. You can have as little as 2 or 4 implants to support these. Less costly in the long run too I have heard. They modify the denture you already have to snap onto the implants once they have bonded to the bone.

I have 8 implants on top and 6 on the bottom. My teeth are a whole unit similar to a denture. My teeth have metal covered in gold covered in porcelain for the top and my lowers are titanium covered in acrylic for the lowers. My teeth are attached to the implants with tiny gold screws. I cannot remove my teeth only a dentist can. To clean them I must use a water pik, floss and a toothbrush like normal teeth.

I have a dear friend who is a Prosthodontist.(by the way you should choose a prosthodontist and not just a dentist as they are specialists in those who have lost their teeth) She did a study on implant supported dentures vs just dentures. The study proved that those without implants bones deteriorated rapidly once the teeth were pulled and that those who received implants the bone stayed strong and healthy as they would have if they still had their natural teeth.

Implant supported overdentures work out very well for many patients. This type of treatment is usually cheaper that implants supporting fixed caps. You should have yourself evaluated by a reputable specialist (Periodontist is best since we deal with the restorative options that are needed) rather than an oral surgeon.

i heard implant supported denture is still sitting on gum and have sore spots.the denture need be reline when gum is chang.is that true? i am planing to have 5 on top,3 on bottom.that is all i can pay for.

On may 16 I had my extractions and titanium implants placed on top. The dentist placed 4 implants and planned to place 2 more a few weeks later. I don't know why the time span.
The denture was not connected to 2 of the implants because they were loose. So I only have the denture snapped on to one implant on each side. The final 2 implants have not been put in yet. I am having a lot of problems with the implant on the left. It is painful and seems to be getting loose. So as of now, only 1 implant seems to be seccessful. I don't know what the future holds. The dentist seems to have a wait and see attitude which concerns me. I wish he would at least take some x-rays to see what is going on with the implants. I will definitely bring that up during my nest visit.

i am sorry to hear that.i think you may need conventional implant which take longer time.but success rate is very high and also more strong,last very long.someone said MDI only last 10 yrs.i wish you good luck !
