Hi Murph6,
I had a ct scan in March for rib pain I was having (2 years in a row after a cold) and they found a 5mm nodule in my lung. (Never did find what was causing the rib pain though) I'm having my 2nd ct scan this Thursday, and I can tell you I'm pretty scared too. At the last scan the doctor said the nodule was too small to cause any symptoms or test further, so just have to get it rechecked again (and maybe again) to see if it grows.
Try like I'm trying to do and not drive yourself crazy about the what ifs. Boy that's hard isn't it?
Been trying to find lots of info on nodules, and there seems to be a lots of things that cause them, not necessarily all horrible. The majority, from what I read, tend to be benign. So hang in there and good luck on the scan.
Let me know how you're doing, and I'm sure I'll be back here Thursday after my scan too.
Lot of great people on these boards. And quite a few posts on nodules, so hope you've had a chance to read them. It helps.
Good luck!

Missing that note was a stupid error by your doctor and probably this happens because they have wayy to many patients so they rush when reading stuff ( thats also why the waiting room is packed and your appointment comes and go's and you still sit there for an hour or more ). Anyway go get the scan as you need to watch the nodules to see if they grow or not. I too have a 5mm nodule on one lung in the lower lobe and im scared as hell to go for a follow up scan but I will at between 3 and 4 months which is about 3 weeks from now. I also have some heart palp issues and pains all around my chest constantly and a small cyst on my brain so I know how it feels to be scared about this stuff. I am only 41 ( male ) and feel like I am screwed. I hope not , and I hope both of you are gonna get good news with your upcoming scans too. I have done some things in my life that have not helped my health and I WISH TO GOD I could redo some of my choices but as we all know that is impossible. Please keep us updated and remember your not alone , I care and so do others so good luck.

Hi Murph6, I have nodules and some lger than 5. When first chest x ray after pneumonia (in summer 2004) showed something wrong. Dr. ordered cat scan. Then called me at home one eve. and said make apt. with lung dr. Then bronchoscopy for biopsy and other breathing tests. We were in Ohio and ready to head so. Came to FL. and saw lung dr. He got all the reports in and said it came in I have MAC. Saw infectious dr. After some more tests and conferring back and forth. Started regimin for MAC and that is horrendous to say the least. I too would be wondering about dr who didn't first see the nodule stuff. My pri. care dr. in Ohio saw right off. Get your pictures from hospital also the reports on them. The nodules I have aren't cancerous. Start thinking about seeing a lung dr. Bummer to be so young and have this and then on top to have 4 kids. Hang in there. What I try hard to do is try not to think about it. I know easier said then done.

Hi Murph6 and Everyone,
Just wanted to check in to see how everyone was doing. Guess we're all scared.
TO answer your question Murph, yes I still get occassional rib pain. I've had it on the right & left sides. I went to physical therapy last year & this year for it. That helped.
Noting that you have 4 kids, sometime pregnancy can push the ribs out of place and cause some pain. Something to consider anyway.
Wish you good results tomorrow. I think if there is no change after 3 months,, then the next scan would be in 6 months, from what I've been reading. Guess that's up to the docs.
Lutheran122, please don't beat yourself up about what you've done in the past. We've all had bad habits. Done not so bright things. We're human. Will this be your second ct scan coming up? Guess we're all pretty nervous.
I think Miss Shoes has great advice...try not to worry about it. Boy do I know that's hard! But it's still good advice.
Hang in there everyone, and wishing you all good results along the way.
Hellas

Yes it will be my 2nd , and its hard to forgive myself for past errors when I know if I didn't act in that way my health would be a LOT BETTER. But I will try , im nervous as heck to get this next scan...if there are more nodules or if this one has grown my nerves will throw me over the edge. I don't know how others do it but I would have a hard time with this mentally.

Hi Lutheran,
Me too! Guess I'll find out Thursday, as this scan will be using a dye, the first one didn't. Just the dye itself scare me! I went back to read your original post. Glad you're getting checked sooner than the 6 months. Seems like lots of us here have nodules...I just keep telling myself that most are benign. But you're already one step better than I am. I still smoke, and the nervous stress of this isn't making it easy to quit.
Hang in there.

Hi Murph
I kept checking last night to see if we'd hear from you. I'm glad the scan is over for you and glad to hear how the dye felt to you. (My ct scan is in 3 and a half hours:eek: !) I know how hard the waiting for the results is to bear. I'll know this afternoon, as I wanted the whole thing over in one day, but it gives me a 5 hour wait to pace & worry today!
Maybe this is just what we need to kick our butts into stop smoking! I sure do know I need to quit. All this waiting & worrying doesn't help though, does it?
Wishing you a great report tomorrow and hang in there. And keep pushing for help with that pain you have. If it's structural, like muscles etc, maybe something like physical therapy will help. It helped me, and I'm starting yoga Saturday as the stretches really helped.
Please keep in touch here so we know how you're doing.
Hellas:)

Stop smoking people , I know its easier said then done but look at the crap your going through now and know that the more you smoke the worse your health will be as every week and month and year go's by. Its just not worth it , get the patch and ween yourself off the nicotine..its killing people every day..

Murph!!!
That's is AWESOME news!! :bouncing: I couldn't be happier for you! Best news I've heard all week in fact! Please do try to quit smoking for yourself and your family. I know 4 or 5 a day isn't a lot, but it can easily creep up to a lot more. I'll be continuing my attempts to quit too. It isn't worth it to go through this again, or ever.
Good luck with the gastro doctor. Hope they can figure out the problem and resolve it.
Take Care of yourself Murph.
Hellas:angel:
