My mom has diabetes and is having MAJOR foot issues. Mom said that the doctor told her that she has sarco (?) neuropathy.

Has anyone heard of this? I've looked all over online and can't find anything. We're trying to find out if it's something that she's not remembering quite right or what exactly is this? She's got a call into the doctor.....but until then I'd love to hear from others.

Thanks for any input.

I'm not familiar with sacro? with diabetes and neuropathy. I know my husband's neurologist has used the term sensory diabetic neuropathy. It a term he used to describe the loss of feeling in your feet due to the neuroapthy.
If she has diabetes than she probably has Diabetic Neuropathy. Major problems with your feet occur with diabetes. Unfortunately a downfall of the disease.
Hope this helps...

I have charcot disease(this is the correct spelling, so you can look it up on the internet). Its caused from an injury that did not heal correctly. In my case I had several fractures in my feet. The bone crumbles like cracked porceline so your body creates more bone to correct it but the new bone is abnormal and also crumbles and this keeps on repeating until the arch falls and the foot becomes a rocker foot. The only thing you can do is have no weight on the affected foot and the disease will go into a remission to stop creating this effect. This takes about 2 months for the bone to go into remission. This is important to do to prevent the rocker foot from forming.

Thats good info to research...I did....I didn't know about that condition. I guess it's another thing to watch out for with my husband especially because he has no feeling in his feet from his diabetic neuropathy.

This sounds like EXACTLY what she has and I can see how "sarco" sounds like Charcot.

Thanks for sending this information.

My mom is in a "boot" right now. Did your doctor have you wear that? She's not really been given any information. They did say she could lose her foot. That scared her a LOT.

Any other information or insight you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

Jennifer
