I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question. Over the past year, I've had about 6 or so episodes where I will wake up gagging, like I'm about to vomit, but I don't. I've read that it may be related to GERD, but I don't even know what that is. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello,
GERD can be quite active at night and wake a person with coughing/gagging fits. Go to your doctor and have him/her test you for acid reflux etc... Other symptoms include a chronic cough (day or night), heartburn, stomach pain, regurgitation, sore throat, ear and sinus problems. Don't leave your condition much longer as a course of medication could clear up your problem. Leaving it can cause very serious damage (if it is GERD). Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
Cheers,
Dunk.

P.S. Elevating the head of your bed could be helpful.
