Right now I am on 3 BP meds metoprolol, norvasc, benazepril. The doc just added the norvasc because my bp wasn't completely controlled. In the past I was on clonidine and that worked really well (with little or no side effects), but I was taken off it because the doctor said that it really wasn't the best drug for treating blood pressure. I was wondering if anyone has been taking clonidine for long term control of blood pressure, cause taking a couple of clonidine a day seems more attractive to me then taking 3 different meds.

My mom takes clonidine for her bp. She started out with .01 6x daily, recently her dr. changed it to .09 3 x daily. She also takes verapamil 120 mgs. Her bp is now 130/80. The only problem with clonidine is that you have to take dosages on time or bp will spike, and it makes my mom sleepy with the higher dosage.

She has been on clonidine for about two yrs.

I forgot to add clonidine can elevate cholesterol levels.
