Went to docs and been getting 140-170 / 90-99 BP (ranging between that). I am 30, 20 stone (300lb) and 5'7. Pretty stressful time at moment as well which is not helping. (dad died from stroke/heart attack at 55 a few months back!) plus changed jobs from spending 5years working in the US (back in UK now). I am putting this down to weight / stress.

Doc wants to start me on 2.5>5.0(2 weeks) of Ramipril. Blood work / ECG came back clean - apart from clestrol at 6.9 (which I am dealing with) However not so sure I want to start taking drugs long term. Been not sick at all for years, in fact this was first time I had been to docs in 11years!.

I have started a strict diet for last few weeks, and really going to lose the weight. Planning on going to gym - but worried - is there any risk having high BP and falling over from heart attack / stroke if I do too much?

I have read that high bP causes stroke. Does it happen at a BP rate - ie if I hit 190 / 105 or something its like 99% sure I would have a stroke?

Should also say I have never smoked, hardly drink (a pint a month at that!), reason to go to docs in first place was generaly feeling crap and my eyesight was casuing me gip, which until recently had been perfect. Still not got to the bottom of that.

Thanks for any advice.
