Tommy, once you have all your teeth pulled, your periodontal disease will be gone. The biggest reasons for implants to fail is smoking and diabetes. If you don't smoke or have diabetes your implants should be fine.

Have you been to a specialist called a periodontist? There are options for you at 44.

Anyway, don't beat yourself up. Unfortunately bone loss is irreversible, but good oral hygiene can be learned at any age. You might be able to save your teeth!! If not, dentures really aren't that bad.. you just have to get past the mental part of having them. People with periodontal disease usually don't know it, but their breath smells REALLY bad. So if it comes down to dentures think of it as a good thing, not a bad thing... Get to the periodontist.

Good luck to you
