My daughter(stepdaughter) just started on meds for the first time and I'm wondering if anyone knows much about them in children? She is being watched closely (by me) so I just wonder if they are effective. She is taking Seroquel (at night only to help her sleep, she has bad dreams that wake her), and then she is taking Fluoxetine(generic for Prozac, for depression). Now people please understand she wouldn't be on these if we(her father and I) didn't think it was really needed. She has been talking of killing herself, and had a plan(so we know she is depressed). We didn't want to do the med thing, but have had to go this road. She is in counceling and is set up to have testing.

Eight years old is really young to be on antidepressants. Most AD's have a black box warning about a possiblity of suicide and suicide ideation in those who are under eighteen. Most AD's take four to six weeks to really work and unfortunately some AD's will not work for some people, I am on my 15th prescription in a little over a year
take care

Thanks for the info, seems that she is already having these problems, that is why she was put on the meds in the first place. But I am glad to know about how long we should see something out of them for her, until I see that she is feeling better she is not out of sight!
I took Serequel for sleeping...and it knocked me out...and very out of it the next day...Prozac can cause suicidal thoughts also......hopefully these will help her. She and your and your husband are in my prayer's!!!!
