I knew it was normal for some babies to have their newborn hair fall out to be replaced with "real hair" but I was wondering when this should happen? My son is 5 weeks old and on the side of his head where he sleeps on the most there is a visable small patch where the hair is going away. is this normal at this early age or should I be concerned?

My Ped told me pretty much anything can happen within the first year.

For DD, she was born with lots of hair. Everyone told me it would fall out. She started losing some hair right away. By 6 weeks old, she had the old man hair...thin at the top and normal hair around everywhere else. 6 weeks was where the "worst" of the thinning reached it's peak. She is now 9 months old, and has never lost any hair since.

I remember when my neice was born, I visited when she was 5 days old, and was already losing hair then.

I really think anything goes.

My DS has a FULL head of thick hair. He is 3 months old and not one strand has fallen out yet. Our Ped told us it would probably fall out but it has not yet.

Most young babies get a bald spot on the back of their head because they are lying down so much. Completely normal.

yes that is what my mom told me. I try to keep her head properly rotated (LOL!) So far its not really helping. I guess it will grow back in when she can sit up more on her own.
