Hi everyone,
I've been having stomach pains for about a year and my doctor finally sent me to a GI specialist. I've had an upper GI, which showed GERD, on Tuesday I had a CT scan (no results yet) and am having an endoscopy tomorrow.
I should have asked sooner, but if anyone can give me any insight on how I'll feel afterwards, I'd appreciate it, even if the answer isn't good. I'm having work done on my house and could go to my daughers house if I need to rest, but don't want to go if it's not necessary.

Just had mine done today. It went alot better than the last one. I did not have the same kind of medicine and was not as sleepy. There is not much pain except for gas. Just rest where ever you can. Good luck.

Hi there. You will be sedated for the procedure, so may feel sleepy all day. Don't plan to drive or stay by yourself for at least 12 hours afterwards; rest when you can. You may have a slight sore throat for a day or 2 since the scope can sometimes be irritating as it goes down. Endo is no big deal - I don't even get anxious anymore before mine (I've had 7 and will require them every 2 years from now on due to diagnosis of Barrett's esophagus; my GERD was surgically corrected).
Good luck to you & keep us posted,
Katie G

I'm not sure when u posted this, LOL didnt even look but just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. AFter my scope my throat did not hurt at all, absolutly no discomfort, but the novocaine was NASTY! The stuff the dr gave me put me out like a light and I was slightly dizzy the reest of the day. Its a good thing they wheel chair u outo f the hospital or i probably would have fallen into a few walls http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif Except for being a little tired and a little dizzy at tiems I was perfectly fine afterwards. I think the sedative medicne she gave me just threw of my sense of balance for the day http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif No biggie though.

I had the Endoscopy on Friday and it was simple and painless! I was completely knocked out so didn't feel a thing, didn't even get the novacaine spray that some have mentioned.
It was done in my doctors "Endoscopy Center" which is one floor up from their regular office, so no wheelchair to the door or anything like that. I do have a few complaints with this system, my husband didn't even see the doctor is one of them.
The doctor told me what he saw (just inflammation) but I was still too dazed and confused to ask any questions. If and when I see him again he's only going to know what's written in my chart so it'll be too late to ask him if the GERD is gone. Since he didn't say anything about it, I'm assuming I don't have it anymore. Is this possible??
Thanks for all of your help,
Kathy

I had my third in October and was awake the whole time. Gave me a little something to relax me but followed the whole proceedure. It was totally painless. The other two I was out for but because of lung problems they did not want me sedated. Now the colonoscopy without sedation was a different story. Had that Wed. and it was painful. Threre are no nerve endings in esophagus and stomach I heard so don't worry.
