I've been on Sarafem 10 mg for two weeks for PMDD. The first week went well, but as soon as my period started, I'm having frequent crying spells.....in the afternoons and evenings. I did not have this problem before prozac. Will this subside or do I need to stop the medication. I feel like I'm getting depressed....(not depressed before, only for PMS). btw, I usually return to normal after my period starts, but now I've gotten worse.

If I'm not mistaken Sarafem is also, Lexapro. I'm not sure how much can be blamed on your PMS, or if depression has set in.

I'm sorry I can't help more because if I was qualified I would. However, we are all just people suffering from the same disease, depression.

I don't really think anyone can answer your questions, except your dr, in this case, so please call. Let us know what is going on and keep posting.

I wish you best wishes and good luck.....WW

Sarafem is generic for Prozac. It's supposed to be taken 14 days on 14 days off....as implicated for PMS. I'm stopping it today. I will continue the regimen 14 days prior to my period. This is whats recommended by doctors, but I didn't think it was safe to stop an ssri?
