View Full Version : Diagnosed today -- Acoustic Neuroma tumor of inner ear and Arachnoid Cyst

I am 40 years old with 4 children ages 2 - 13. My ENT ordered an MRI of my brain. I found today out I have:

1. Acoustic Neuroma benign tumor (in inner ear) at approx 3 cm. (One doctor said it really looked like a Menigioma to him).

2. arachnoid cyst which impacts the brain stem

I would like to see someone who performs hundreds of Acoustic Neuroma surgeries per year, etc.., but also someone who can give me expert advice as to whether I should pursue surgery or Gamma Knife. And I don’t know what to do about the arachnoid cyst, and if it can be dealt with at the same time. It’s hard to know what to do, as I’ve already received 2 different opinions. I haven’t seen anyone at Emory yet. I’ve been told I need treatment in the next 30-60 days.

My 13 year old just had spinal fusion 6 months ago, and she is still healing. She's still not allowed to lift more than 12 pounds. I just want to solve my problem ASAP so that I can be the best mom I can be.

Any comments on expert surgeons (and gamma knife versus surgery) would be would be appreciated. I live in the Atlanta area. I need an expert.
