Sorry, I forgot to also ask about weight. My surgeon has said that sometimes a larger incision has to be made if a person is quite heavy. Because of my Lupus meds I am approx. 250 lbs. Do you think I am too heavy to have a laparoscopy?

Hi again. You really need to ask your doctor - it all depends on his competence level.
Good luck,

Are you having gallbladder problems also, or is the ultrasound for something else?
I wish I could answer your question, but as you can by my origianl post, I am wondering the same thing!

Well the ultrasound went well. But it will take 7 working days to get the results bak to my Primary Care Physician. The technologist would not tell me anything. So another 9 days of waiting.

I had what was possibly a gallbladder attack on Dec 10th. The ultrasound was to confirm or not confirm the preliminary diagnosis.

It's hard to wait for results!
My Surgeon has already told me that they won't know whether I am too heavy for the procedure until they open me up. I suppose I am just so nervous, I want any info that anyone could offer. I go see my Surgeon to set everything up on Monday. Hopefully that appt. will set my mind at ease.
I hope you find out what ails you and can get some relief!

I am also about 280 pounds, 5'11" tall, and neither my primary care physician nor my surgeon have said anything to me about being too heavy for laporoscopy. In fact, my surgeon never even brought up anything but a laporoscopic procedure.

Bad news: Got the ultrasound results today. Definitely Gallstones, Actually one sinegl gallstone!!! 2.3 cm (Approx 1 inch). Getting referral to surgeon. Primary care dr says, Laproscip is not advised due to my weight of 319 lbs and the huge size of the stone. So regular old fashioned surgery might have to be done. Which would be a 6-8 week recovery time.
___
Waiting to talk to surgeon, to see if I have any options. Very worried!!!

I had gall bladder surgery 2 years ago. I weighed 330 pounds at the time of surgery. I had a laparoscopy and everything went great. I had very few post surgery problems (some cramping and diarreah on the 3rd and 4th day after. I was back to work in 2 weeks and recovered very well. Don't let them tell you that you can't have laparoscopy because you are overweight, if you have a good surgeon it should be no problem.

This is good to hear. My appointment with the surgeon to consult is next friday. Hopefully he is a good one.
