Has anyone ever taken this for mild or moderate depression and did you have any results, or does it at least boost your mood? Please advise

I have taken St. Johns in the past, and just started taking it again 2 weeks ago. It helps me some, but unfortunately not enough. Maybe I haven't stuck with it long enough in the past. Some people say they really notice a difference after about 3 months (that's a long time to have to wait!). But if you only have mild to moderate depression, it might help you.

Ive taken St Johns Wort before. It did not work for me mainly because Im a little more morbidly depressed. If you experience severe depression, Im not sure it would be effective. But if you are only experiencing moderate depression, its worth a try.

Loved it! I took it for 6 months and it did the trick for me! It was the only thing I could tolerate...my system is very sensitive and reactive.

I've taken St Johns Wort for years and only in the last few months have gone the pharmaceutical route.

It's hard to say if it helped a whole lot... kinda like, well if i wasn't taking it how would i know the difference i would feel?

I'd have to say, that I do think it helped moderately. I wonder what affect it would have if i took it as well as my Prozac? Any ideas?

Definitely check with your doctor before adding any medications or herbal supplements. Combining antidepressants with herbal remedies can sometimes cause dangerous interactions.

My Mom took it for quite a while and was a firm believer in it. She also took valerian root (think I spelled it right) with it. I have to believe it works for some because it kept her away from Xanax, Elavil and Valium for years. She also went to some type of chiropractor that did not "pop" her bones, they used some kind of clicker thing. They would do different types of massaging when her bouts of depression and anxiety came on. As others have said, it may not help with more severe cases. I hope it works for you!

i have used it and i do think that it works. at the time, i used it along with fish oil and another product with evening primrose oil, as i was having a particularly hard time right before my period. i definitely think there was some validity to the fish oil, also.

Has anyone here had success with it for moderate to severe depression? I've suffered depression, anxiety, etc. since before puberty (I'm 36 now). I'm currently on Prozac 40 mgs. However, I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to be on it due to insurance issues. TIA for any thoughts.:)

Do not take St John's Wort with any antidepressant as it may take the effectiveness of the med in a negative fashion

Oh, no no, I know not to take it with an AD, serotonin syndrome, etc. Thanks for the heads up, though. I just wanted to know peoples' experiences with it as far as moderate to severe depression because I'm seriously considering trying it if I can't continue on the Prozac.
