I have a partial lower denture. When it is time for my permanant denture I have a choice of the acrylic material or a cast metal. Does anyone know the difference? The cast metal is a bit more expensive and is supposed to be less bulky. But I heard that they put the acrylic over the cast metal. Wouldn't that make it more bulky? I'm confused.

Acrylic only wears more I have heard than the metal based. Yes it would be an initial extra expense but I think it would last longer. Mine is very beautiful but I have an implant supported prosthesis. But my teeth are in one unit like a denture. My teeth are screwed onto my implants.

I think that mine is made out of acrylic. The hooks are made out of pink material (perhaps acrylic) and it is very bendy and fragile looking. It is also kind of bulky , it holds the place for two teeth on my back left side (until I can afford implants). It is also very tight. The first time I put it in it was excruciating and if I forget to wear it for awhile it hurts as well.
Now my grandmother has a metal partial and she has the opposite complaint, hers is always loose. It has metal clamps and metal that runs along the bottom of her mouth. It is older and it is not covered with acrylic. I guess the acrylic makes it look more realistic.
I guess when in doubt if you can afford the more expensive partial, I would get that. It is probably more durable.

Yes, I guess that the better one is the best one to get. I just want the kind that is the least bulky. Maybe the dentist has a sample to show me. I'll have to ask next time.
