I've been having a lump in my throat and acid reflux so I decided to see dr. I have been on prevacid a few yrs and its worked well up until now. My dr. now wants me to take protonix. Never heard of this one and I'm very leary. Any thoughts?

Stomp your feet and demand to stay with what works. Protonix made me sicker. It took two monts of begging to get to a drug that works. Stay away from Protonix.

I agree. I was given Protonix after endoscopy. Two a day for a week and then one a day. Started itching around shoulders and chest and getting worse heartburn but didn't connect it to Protonix till I read about itching. Took it for about 5 weeks and I think it messed me up. Had taken Nexium before so went back on that but am still having problems. Even Nexium is notworking well. Nexium is different thatPrevacid and Protonix. They actually are quite similar chemically but I didn't have problem with Prevacid but did think it helped either. Nothing does now, it seems.

Canyonbabe, that was month ago. I'm also feeling that nothing works, and they won't operate on my hiatus hernia although I have Barrets' because my esophagus has weak muscles. The bloating and indigestion I have from Nexium is better than the bowel pains I was experiencing without it. I tried Periot before that. Does anyone know what it is called in other countries? (I'm an Aussie). Could it be the one you say was hopeless? I was wondering what they do next, Canyonbabe, if nothing works?

HiHi, I don't know what Periot is but Idon't think it is Protonix which I could not take. There is a different name for it in Canada but it is not Periot. Check out a search engine and see what Periot is. I don't know what to tell you it is discouraging. I am hoping the Nexium is going to help me. The last few days have been much better. I know we have to give it time, some say 6 to 8 weeks but it is hard when you don't think something is working. Because of my age and lung problems I cannot have surgery even though I have Barretts so I have to rely on meds. Sort of scary. If I find out what Periot is I will let you know. Good luck. Stay posted.
