Aunt's colon cancer has moved to the outside (around) one kidney. I am suprised it has moved to the kidney and not the liver or lungs. she had the mass for 2 1/2 years before she let them do surgery. She's 80 yrs old and in excellent health otherwise. She has a 6.6 red cell count and had to receive blood and they are putting stint in tomorrow morning to let some of the fluid off the kidney. PET scans 2 weeks ago didn't pick up the kidney problem...they said it was too cloudy and they couldn't see it. but now they say it's from the colon cancer and has metastisized to the kidney. All this makes no sense. She was on the chemo pill for 10 days and 10 off...made her have diahreah every single day for months.............she is not doing too well. She is so worried. Her oncologist is not the best at giving her all information. He told her he didn't know what was causing the diarreah...we all know the chemo was the culprit...She's going to change oncologists and get other opinions. any help is appreciated.......

Update on aunt....Her doctor doesn't work on weekends I guess, so another doctor came in her room this morning and said he had looked at the PET scan and that she has "hot spots" all over.....ab area....liver kidneys, everywhere......so this tells me that her regular doctor didn't want to tell her this. he NEVER mentioned it.........so it doesn't look too good......

Would she agree to change oncologists? This one should have been honest with her so that she would understand what she is up against and be better prepared to fight it. My thoughts and prayers are with your aunt, you and family.

Yes, she wants to change docs. One time he tells her she can go home this weekend after they drain the kidney (put a stint in) and one time he tells her they will start chemo drip and want her to stay next week so they can watch her........so she never knows from day to day what's going on. It really makes you not even want to go to a doctor........

I am sorry that your aunt is having to go through all of this, plus have a doctor who jumps around. She might be able to ask the chemo nurse about another doctor or talk to her primary care doctor or surgeon and find another oncologist. She needs a doctor who will take the time to explain to her what is going on and help her fight this in more ways that just the chemo. She is very lucky to have you with her during this time.

They were going to start chemo today, after seeing may hot spots...could not start chem due to her red blood count being low AGAIN...have staged her at IV...doesn't look good.........I feel as though she wanted so long (3yrs) after diagnosis, that it just spread everywhere. She's pretty down today. they are giving her more blood and we'll see what happens. What could be using that blood besides a mass. the first mass they took out was using lots of her blood...had 3 transfusions, and had to go ever 6 days to get more blood. Since surgery removal of mass, it's been all down hill.
