View Full Version : I look twenty pounds more than what I actually weigh. What gives?

*sighs* I've had a rough week. Thinking unhappy thoughts.

Does anyone feel like they "wear" their weight worse than others? I'm 5'4", 145 lbs (down from 155) and in a lot of ways I like the way I look. I'm gonna try to lose ten more pounds but I'm not ashamed of my body. The real reason I want to lose the weight is to see if it changes the look of my face. My cheeks are just so plump and big! And not in a good way. I have, like, no cheek bones and bad structure in general so when my cheeks are plump my face looks like a big pillow.

I guess I'm wondering if losing ten or fifteen pounds is really going to do anything about this? Anyone else have that experience? Also, does losing twenty pounds make much of a difference in bra size? My boobs seem way too big - I have to use the elliptical machine because it hurts to run on the treadmill.

Like, I'm not saying I wouldn't mind losing fat around my middle but if I could take it from anywhere I'd take it from my face! Maybe then I'd actually look ok.

Oh well.

Hi LJ,
I know how you feel. I get that way sometimes. I know that when I started losing weight, the first place my husband noticed it was in my face and neck. Then my butt and the back of my legs. Doing the weight classes has really helped my legs. They are in good shape now and I have no cellulite!
Eventually my arms became more defined and slowly but surely my stomach is flatter than it used to be (that's my problem area)
I am 5'4 too and weighed 153 when I started. I am down to 130, but have gained a couple of pounds (I think because of gaining muscle mass) My clothes are getting looser, but yet weigh a little more(?)
Hang in there! Stick to it and don't get discouraged. I know it's hard and you will have up days and down days - I have them too. When I have a down day I just tend to really focus on the next day and don't let it get me down.

Thanks for the encouragement, Susieq, I'm feeling much better today. What is your goal weight?

That makes sense if you're lifting weights that you're seeing better changes in how you look than how much you weigh. I cannot tell you the number of times I've heard people say "muscle weighs more than fat"!

I read somewhere once that the first place you gain the weight is the last place it will leave. I'm starting to believe that. I am 5' 5" and weigh 135. I used to be 180. The weight seemed to come off is sections, breasts first, then thighs, then tummy, but the last 5 lbs. I would like to get off is hanging on my arms. I can fit in my shirts perfect now, except my sleeves are tight.

I am 5'3" and weigh 150 lbs. I use to be 130 lbs. I have small boobs, and the weight is concentrated around my stomach. I have a shorter torso in comparison to my legs, with a long crotch to waistline measurement. So when I where shorts it makes me look even fatter because it pulls in the groin area or it has that drop look from the stomach that holds it away from your body. Lately I have been looking about 7 mos. pregnant and nothing fits. I am now wearing a size 12 (which means nothing because if I shop at the better stores I'd be a 6). Sometimes I feel like digging out the maternity clothes (3 yrs old) and just going with it until the weight comes off. I like dance videos for weight lose, but my 3 and 5 yr olds don't give me much time to myself. Sorry to scare you or scar your memory with such a picture, but lets be honest.

Nancy

Well in my head, my goal weight is 125. I just can't seem to get there. I bounce between 130 & 133. I know people say muscle weighs more than fat - It's just hard to focus on something else than what the scale says! My clothes fit great and I feel better - I just wish the scale said 125!:D

Why not set your scale to -5? ;)

5'4" and 130? I bet you look great. My temporary goal is 135. I haven't been that weight since I was a teenager and I don't really remember what it was like. If I'm happy there, I'll maintain, but I might go down to 130/125 too.

I'd like to get a leaner face and a flatter tummy, but one thing I don't want to lose is my curves! I don't want to get *too* skinny. :)

I hear ya. My husband doesn't like women that are too skinny. He says they look sick. He likes women that are curvey and more "buff" looking. My arms have never looked better - I've even lost the flab on the back (tricep area) of my arms that jiggles when you get older!:D I have no cellulite on the back of my legs either. I, like you, would like a flatter tummy and it's hard to lose fat in that area. I have a bad back and it prevents me from doing some exercises. Crunches can be a real chore for me. My stomach is thinner than it used to be, but I want a six pack!
