Hi everybody
Just wondering if anyone here is from NJ and of so, do you know of any OCD support groups or decent therapists.
I've been in and out of therapy since I'm about 13, I'm 38 now. However there's been long spans of time where I didn't see anyone. I recently started seeing a counselor and of course stopped after about 8 months....She hardly did anything for me. I guess I really need to work with a psychologist. It's been years since I've had a therapist with a doctoral degree.
Any advice on the type of therapy that is best for OCD and anxiety?
Thanks

Hey
The best type of threapy for anxiety/OCD is cognitive behavioural therapy and exposure/response therapy. There are a lot of resources on the net about it.
I dont llive in NJ, but if you are nearer NYC Dr. Steven Philipson (a quality therapist, and very much the patron saint of us OCD'ers) operates a practice there. You cant post links on here, but try a search engine, otherwise I'd give you a website. Its very much hit and miss with therapists. Some are great at what they do, others less so.
Hope that helps dude

Thanks for the response. I guess I really should seek out a therapis, psychologist, that specialized. What gets me annoyed is that I asked the last therapis, who was a social worker, if she could help with my ocd and she said yes and she hardly helped me at all...
