Hello - Just curious if anyone has ever been diagnosed with multiple types of cancer. I had thyroid cancer in 2002 and now have liposarcoma in 2006.

LauraJane 06-23-2006, 11:03 AM Hello - Just curious if anyone has ever been diagnosed with multiple types of cancer. I had thyroid cancer in 2002 and now have liposarcoma in 2006. Laura Sponsor SamQKitty 06-26-2006, 12:15 AM Yes, I've had two different types of cancer, and so far am surviving both. The first was Cancer of Unknown Primary (CUP) in 2001. CUP can be a variety of cancers, but the primary is never found. Mine was in a lymph node in the groin, but it wasn't lymphoma. I was scanned and poked and prodded from head to toe, but no primary was ever found. The tumor had similarities to squamous cell and to small cell cancer, so I was treated with chemo that works for both of those types, along with radiation to the lymph node area. As of October, it will be five years since I finished treatment. Last Septemer I had a cancerous tumor removed from my bladder. It was transitional cell carcinoma (TCC), which is a very common form of bladder cancer. I have cystoscopies every 3 months, but so far no recurrence. This second cancer definitely was NOT related to the first one. I'm going to start taking Oncovite, which is a vitamin supplement developed by a urologist for its antioxidant qualities. It's been tested and seems to help prevent recurrences of bladder cancer, but I'm not sure if it's been tested for other cancers. Can't hurt...might help ;) Ruth grace106 06-26-2006, 12:06 PM Could I ask what chemo you had. I have cup and will have 4th treatment of taxol. carboplatin tomorrow of 6 treatments had 20 whole brain radiation am do great so far, hope to keep on keeping on. yosemite05 06-26-2006, 10:14 PM Ruth, Is Oncovite only sold online? My husband asked his urologist about it and he said studies haven't proven that it works but he could try it if he wanted. I looked at Costco but didn't see any there. I would like him to start taking it. Yosemite |
