Hello, I have just a couple questions regarding asthma medications.

I'm on Singulair right now (along with albuterol inhaler) However my insurance is changing (I have to pay for it myself!) and I'm looking into switching to a daily asthma controller that comes in generic form. I know that Singulair does not come in one.

I'm not the smartest at researching things and I was wondering if anybody here knows of any generic asthma medicines, either pill or inhaler such as Advair, I'm not picky.

Also, I noticed some are steroid and others are non. Is there a big difference between the two? A greater risk of certian side effects? Or is everything generally the same.

Thank you for any help :)

I have an appt for the doctor, I was hoping to look things up myself before going so I could be more informed and help with decision makeing as it is my body, I thought asking here might be helpful. I'll look elsewhere.

I was prescribed Advair yesterday by my doc. He said it will also contain some kind of steroid. I don't have drug plan, it cost me $115.CAD for 60 doses, 1 month supply. It doesn't work right away, need to wait at least few minutes to feel any effect. One dose should last about 12 hrs.
Side effects are coughing, throat irritation, thrush, shakiness, heart palpitations. You can gargle with water after use to help prevent thrush.

I have a Flovent inhaler as my daily med and the albuterol rescue inhaler. The Flovent has worked well for me and does not have albuterol added. So all the albuterol I get is when I use it specifically. It works great for me.
