I know we just had a thread about how to bath a baby, but what about how often? All my books say to do it a couple of times a week, if that, but, she likes it, and it has become a part of her evening routine.
The only parts that get soap are her head, bottom, and hands. I have washed her hair every day since she was about a month old. She's never had cradle cap, dry skin, or anything. She's like me and gets oily hair if it's not washed, and since she has SO much of it everyone likes to touch it, which just makes it more yucky. I love it when her hair is all fluffly and clean, and if she doesn't get a bath she looks grubby. LOL

Everyday at 8 pm. She is out for the night by 9pm. I have done this with both kids since 2 months maybe a bit earlier with DD. When she was very young we would give her a bath and we couldn't get her dressed fast enough so she could go to sleep. It is a great bedtime signal and I think it relaxes them.

I also bathe DD every night. Not because she is dirty, but its part of our routine, and she also likes it. I agree that it relaxes them. DD is usually ready to go to bed shortly after her bath.

I wish my daughter got sleepy after her bath. It seems to rejuvenate her. I also have the bedtime lavender aromatherapy bath stuff, and she STILL gets out of the tub smiling and ready to play.

I bathe ds every other night. I think he would love it if I gave him a bath every night but I just don't have the time! It's hard when you have a toddler as well! He also gets very hyper and happy after a bath. I also give him a massage with Aveeno lavender baby lotion and he looooooves that so much!
I still wipe down his face and hands every once in a while every day to keep him clean. :)
I give ds a bath everynight before bed..sometimes we may miss a night because we were out somewhere and when we get home he gets a diaper change and into his pj's and down for the night.
It's been a part of his routine since he was born...he plays after supper, has a bath, plays a little more and then nurses and may play a little bit more or cuddles and then goes down.
Good luck!
S :)

when he was first born i bathed him twice a week like all the books and professionals recommend but since he was about 12 weeks i bath him say 5 nights out of 7. i use johnsons bath wash with lavender extracts and johnsons baby shampoo i only wash his hair say 3 times a week as there is already baby bath wash in the water, he has never had craddle cap or dry skin. in fact i don't think about his skin because we don't have problems with it but i am always having other women comment on his "lovely skin", in my mind he is a baby and to me most babies have smooth lovely skin. after ds bath which he loves dh and i bath him together then i give him a bottle or hug depending on if he is due a feed then pop him to bed about 730-830, he is sleeping till about 530 most morning but teice this week he slept till almost 7am i wish he did this mors often:yawn:

At beginning since it was winter I only gave her a bath 1 or twice a week. I live in canada and the winter are really cold and dry.
Anyways once it started getting warmer I started bathing her more. Right it is usually every second day she gets bath.

I was bathing my ds evernight until I seen his skin getting dried out (eventhough I lotioned him) so now I do it every two nights. It seems to help him alot. I use the lavander stuff and it puts him to sleep so I need to watch when I give him a bath bc it I do it to early in the evening he ends up in bed at 630 and waking up to feed at 11 eventhough he's sleeping through the night..hence lastnight lol.

I always bathed ds every day. I couldn't imagine not! He loved it, and he had eczema. The ped. dermatologist told me that bathing them every day is good for dry skin, as long as the bath is very short. He said that it softens the skin, making it much easier to absorb lotion, so that's what I did. He also seemed to have at least 1 explosive diaper a day, so I think he really needed it!

Like dizzygirl, our DS has eczema (mild) but our ped suggested only two short baths a week in the begining which was also in the winter time. At DS 6 month appointment (April) his ped gave the okay for 3 baths a week. We have been doing just fine with that.

I bathed about every 2nd or 3rd day...up until she was about 7 months old. She never got cradle cap or anything, so I wasn't needing to work the scalp for that.
I put lotion on her after every bath during the winter months as a precaution for the dry indoor air.
Once DD got into table foods (bananas & cereal & whatnot in her hair)...plus the warmer weather & us being outside a lot & getting hot, it's become about every day. I've stopped lotioning her up after baths since it's summertime.
