Hello. Ive had IBS on and off the past 6 years, however this last time something has happened which kind of frightened me and I am looking for advice. 2 nights ago I had a really bad episode of IBS, as usual I get cramps every 10 minutes and then need to basically camp out in the bathroom until I feel better. This time however after having really severe diarreah I passed what I can only describe as ( sorry in advance) a huge wad of blood streaked snotty mucus. Ive passed mucus before but always with stool and never on its own? Does anyone else have this happen to them after a severe bout? Thank you so much for any advice or responses.

Have you been tested for Clostridium difficile (C. diff) or Colitis? It sounds like you have some issues going on besides the IBS. I've had IBS for years and have diarrhea daily, but have never passed blood or mucous. If you have a regular GI doctor, I would call and make an appointment.

Good luck to you.

Wow- I'm sure that did frighten you. I've been dealing with IBS for a very long time and was only diagnosed about 4 years ago. I've had rare flare ups that produced almost what you described, but I totally agree with Director.

It sounds like you should call your GI doctor and let them know what happened and see if he/she would like to see you. Ulcerative Colitis as well as Chrons can cause similar problems such as that. Not trying to scare you, but since you already have bowel problems, it is certainly something worth speaking with your GI doctor about.

I do hope things have settled and your bowels are on an even keel right now. Let us know how things are.

Best Wishes-
Lezlee

I've had that too ... and when I went to see my doc they said it was probably a haemorrhoid or something of that nature. It scared the heck fire out of me, I thought I was in serious trouble!

Athough it can be benign, it is best to get checked out by your doc!

Tam :)
