I have had asthma ever since I was born. I guess it was really bad as an infant and then as I got older it seemed to get better and I only needed my inhaler (back then was Ventolin) occasionally. Now over the last 2 years it has got progressivly worse. I have been using my albuterol daily about 4-6 times daily and my Dr put me on Advair 250/50 which so far seems to really be helping as I dont need the Albuterol as often. I have noticed after using my inhalers i start coughing up mucus. Is it possible that coughing it up after using the meds might make the meds less effective? Thanks in advance!

Actually that is the meds at work and doing what they should. Coughing up mucus means it's being cleared from your lungs. Cough up as much as you can and try to get it all out. Albuterol will have that effect and is used when you have a breathing test done at the doctor's office.

Also, blow your nose often when you cough up phlegm/mucus and 'spit' up as much mucus/phlegm as you can - it will help from having the phlegm/mucus in your throat NOT to go back into your lungs.

I know this sounds disgusting but getting as much phelm/musus out of your chest cavity is key for asthmatics.

Good Luck!
