I am an undiagnosed possible diabetic and I have been reading about the dawn phenomenon. My fasting glucose levels when I wake up are typically in the 120 - 130 range and drop to 105 - 115 after about 30 minutes of being up and moving around. When I go to my doctor he is going to test my glucose level after I have been up so I think that I will be diagosed with pre-diabetes. I don't have any symptoms other than being dizzy so I was wondering if anyone had similiar reading before they were diagnosed?

I'm curious as to what made you start testing your blood sugars in the first place. Were you already told you're pre-diabetic?

Since you're already testing, you might want to start testing two hours after meals; not necessarily every single meal, but scatter some tests after breakfast, lunch, dinner, so you can see patterns. Keep a log and bring it with you to the appointment.

Also, since you know darned well that you're probably going to be diagnosed, start watching your food intake more carefully. You might want to ask for a referral to a registered dietician for advice on how much you should be eating. You can manage your food intake in several ways...either by calorie counting, by carb counting, or by exchange counting. Within each method, you can further refine by limiting carbs or fat...whatever you need to do to keep your blood sugar levels down and, if necessary, lose weight.

This is actually a long story but can I breifly summarize by saying that my mom passed away in August of last year and ever since then I have had a variety of physical ailments. I had tinnitus, hearing loss and dizziness so I saw an ENT and he told me that I probably had Meneires Disease. I did some research and figured out that I probably didn't have Meneires Disease and made an appointment with one of the best ENTs in the St. Louis area. I had to wait 3 months but he told me that my dizziness is probably being caused by blood sugar or blood pressure changes.

I have changed my diet since I started testing and I have dropped 13 pounds so far. I am down 6' 6" and now weigh about 290 lbs. I just saw my pcp today and he ordered a H1AC test and told me not to worry yet. He said that I can probably lose weight and be back to normal values. He took my BG in his office today and it was 105 2 hours after I had lunch. I had a very low card lunch though. I spiked at 160 on Saturday after a soy burger on a white bun but came back down to 115 in a couple of hours. I think I'm right on the borderline based on my fasting tests.
