hey everyone. i just had my tonsils removed on the 22nd.. and i'm finding it incredibly difficult to get any food beyond my throat. i literally nibble on things and takes me 2 hours toeat something that would normally take 10 seconds.
does anyone have any suggestions on foods that are easiest to eat? i always have food around, i'm constantly trying to eat, but i seriously am not getting anything in but tiny bits of food.
what i'm trying to eat is canned pears (very soft and yummy), perogies (just the insides), lots of freezies although it makes me a bit sick, and cooked veggies so they're soft and easier to get down. that's literally all that i've had since the 22nd and i still have more than enough to last me for 2 weeks at the rate i'm going. so i know i'm not getting enough food in. i'm getting as much fluids as i can.. but i need the energy. how can i get more food in?
i also do find that if i drink luke warm coffee (well it's half coffee, half hot chocolate), my throat feels a lot better, and overall i feel better too, but that may just be me going out of withdrawls? lol.. just wondering if that's a good thing to be having.. it probably is is my guess if i'm feeling better.

also, just wondering... is there anything i can do for ear pain? i went to the pharmacy and the guy told me there was nothing that could be done for it. if that's true then i'll take it, but i just wanted to see if anyone here had done anything before that really helped them out.

sorry if this sounds all jumpy in ideas, i can't really put 2 thoughts together very well.

oh.. another thing. how long until i can speak again? i am having extreem difficulty talking, and pain even.. will i have trouble talking when my throat is better? just wondering..

thanks

gah.. just had another thing i wanted to mention. there's these scab-like things that i sometimes spit up... would that be the scabbing from the back of my throat? and is it ok? i'm assuming so but just wanted to double check.

alright, i'm really done now lol.. thanks again

Hi Andvari, we had surgery on the same day, and like you said, we do have a lot of the same problems.

about the coffee...the nurse in the hospital told me any fluids at all are good as long as they make you feel better (obviously citrus juices won't), because they go towards keeping you hydrated in the long run. :)

about the food...i'm also eating very little, but my mom is forcing me to drink this "fish essence with american ginseng" thing that tastes *awful* and stinks so bad, but keeps me feeling at least a little more energetic than i would be if i didn't drink it. maybe some sort of liquid tonic may help? also, take your time eating. :) a little goes a long way.

i find that the pain meds cure some of the throat discomfort and most of the ear pain because they're linked right? the ear pain is supposed to be "phantom" pain, so with lessened throat pain, the ear pain should go away...

i also found that a hot towel placed around my neck helped ease some of the ear pain but completely increased my throat pain...dunno if you want to try this. :P

the talking...just take it slow...don't stress your throat out more than you need to...my dad keeps saying i must at least try to speak so i get used to it, but the morning i spoke more than i did since surgery, i bled. so i'm only whispering cautiously, only when it's needed.

i've never had scabs come out, just blood...so can't help you there. :P

good luck, have a speedy recovery, take care!

ya talking gets really bad when i need to take more pain meds. and the swelling is still pretty bad. i try to say things and people don't understand and it gets really frustrating being unable to express myself.
my uvula hasn't gone to its normal size yet.. i'm wondering how long that will take.
i was able to get down quite a bit of pasta down for supper. my mom had told me that the nurse was telling her pasta is really good for me to eat. what sucks though is that just about all the food i love is red. speghetti, salsa, all my fave flavours of jello!! i cant win lol..
how many days do you think it is until the actual pain itself should be gone? or subsided a heck of a lot? :D i wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't hurt so bad each time i swallowed
