The doc has decided that I have to have surgery to diagnose the endometriosis. It's not that big of a surprise to me. I had to come off birth control because of the horrible side effects and he doesnt want me to take any more for at least 6 months. I'm waiting on a call from the doc right now for a pre surgery evaluation appointment. Can anyone share any experiences they've had with this procedure? I've looked it up online but its all so freakin clinical

thanks in advance anyone who can give me any advice! :)

As far as surgeries go, it is pretty easy. I had my lap done a week before Thanksgiving and I was still able to cook Thanksgiving dinner. I definitely didn't want to do much for that week though. I guess it depends if the doctor will do any cutting or laser for the endometriosis, for example if you have adhesions that can be repaired. My surgery was just diagnostic and I ended up having a hysterectomy two months later. That recovery was brutal, but the lap recovery was easy. Just rest in bed for a couple of days, don't do any lifting, don't worry when your belly button gets a bad bruise and be sure to take your pain meds before the pain gets bad. You might only need Ibuprofen, but you'll probably get something stronger anyway. Good luck...let us know if you have any specific questions.

It is an easy procedure.
You will be put under. What they do is make an insicion in your belly button and 2 insisions in your lower abdomen. They scope you to see what is going on in side of yah.

You do go home the same day as long as there are np problems. The worst part of the whole thing was the gas that you get after the surgery. It goes all the way up into your shoulder baldes. Just keep walking to help pass it. also try peppermint tea. You usualy have your results immediately.

Oh yea, djl is right, I forgot about the gas pain. It's not gas in your intestines, it's gas free floating in your abdomen that hurts in your shoulder as it tries to escape. They pump you full of air to get a better look with the scope...kind of like your belly being inflated like a balloon. Again, keep on top of the pain meds and I found a heating pad helped me with the shoulder pain very much. It goes away after a couple of days...I tried to sleep through it as much as I could.
