View Full Version : Always Tired

I am 25 years old. I am married and have a 4 year old daughter. About a month ago, I was overcome by exhaustion. Nothing has changed in my diet or other habits. The only difference I noticed is that I cannot get up and moving on the weekends, and I am very tired during the week. I work full time and barely find the energy to do daily activities (i.e. cook dinner, straighten the house, bathe my daughter). For example, on the weekends, I don't get out of bed until about 10:00am. When I do get out of bed, I just go and lay on the couch, dozing off many times until about 7:00pm. Sounds fairly harmless, right? Well, my husband works nights, so I am basically the only form of supervision my daughter has on the weekends. Never before in my daughter's life have I fallen asleep while she's awake (it's a mom thing), but I am VERY bothered by the fact I have been falling asleep while she's up. Has anyone out there ever experienced this...and if so, how did you overcome it? I'll take all the advice I can get.

Are you overweight? If so, and you snore you might look into sleep apnea. It makes you very tired.

Hi kbshorty,

I experienced the same thing when I was in college.

It could be a lot of things, but if fatigue is your only symptom, it may just be iron deficiency anemia. As a woman your age, you can have that even if your diet hasn't changed, and it has exactly that effect.

You should see your doctor. I'm sure they'll start with some basic bloodwork. If it is anemia, you could start feeling better in about a week after you start taking iron. It takes about a month to feel back to normal. If you can't go to the doctor soon, you could start taking Ferrous Gluconate (the form of iron my doctor recommended for better absorption). Just don't take it for more than a few days without having your blood checked because iron is toxic at excessively high levels.

And make sure your 4 year old can't get to it because iron is very dangerous to children because of their size.

Hope that helps.

I am in the same boat. Important things to check:
Thyroid condition--causes these symptoms and can be treated.
Sleep disorders--be sure to see a sleep specialist
Immune disorders---immunologist
Go to your general doctor first, get your thyroid and basic blood tests done, then move on from there.
also, right now I am trying light therapy which is sitting in front on 10,000 lux of light in the morning to suppress fatigue. I just started so I cant tell you if it works, but I can tell you there are options, definitely..good luck

I would also agree with Meredith... and just to add what another said... I would strongly state to get your iron levels checked... forsure.... If those are low.. you will have no energy for much... that is a given..

Get on a good source of vitamins.. or protein shakes.. something that will build you and stick with you to get your counts higher... Make sure that you daughter is safe.. and she can't get into anything that can hurt her... you will get thru this.... not to worry.. just get some help...

Good Luck:angel:
