cathy,
Welcome to the boards!!!

My wife has the same problem but Prilosec helps her alot. She doesn't have Barrett's but--- getting food stuck thing is certainly scary enough.

She takes a calcium/magnesium supplement along with vitamin D ---It may help the esophagus muscles relax more but I don't know. Calcium is nature tranquilizer!!

God Bless--- Harry

Im confused as to why mine have to be dialated so much..Has only been 6 weeks and having it done again this next week for swallowing problems and food getting stuck.....Thank-you for any replys !........Cathy

Cathy, I have Barretts and have no strictures but I do know people that have strictures and no Barretts but their dilations usually last for months. Have you thought about a second opinion? It can't be fun going thru that. I never heard about Calcium being nature's tranquilizer. I find Calcium pills very hard to digest so use the Calci-chews. Regular Calcium pills of all kinds seems to cause regurgitation for me. We are all so different.

hi cathy .i have barrets and i have ulcers and the strictures i just got tired of the meds and i was told if the stictures keep comming back i would have to have part of my esophogus removed .i was to the point with my stricure it had closed off my throat and my esophogus was digesting my food i was one sick puppy i was in intensive care for 2 days and in the hospital for 5.but if your stricture keeps clossing up you may need to have surgery to because repeated dialations can rupture your esophogus oh fun
