Good afternoon all! I have a friend who is currently going through IVF. This is her second round. First was "fresh" this one was with frozen 5 day old embies. I hope I have that all right. Any way she got a bfp on a hpt pg test which usually has a 50 Mui requirement to detect it. When she had her blood taked for the beta it was only 31. The nurse told her not to get her hopes up too high because they like to see at least 59. Which I think is HORRIBLE that she was told that. It is her very first bfp and she wants to be excited but, just can't. She is going on Saturday for another one to make sure they are doubling and will know more then..But, is she pg? or is the nurse right? I just don't know what else to say to her. She had some brown spotting but, that could have been old blood from implantation right?
Thanks
Michele

Sorry to say but most likely she is not. I also had a BFP that was 38 and it went down to 18 two days later. And then under 5 two more days later. They told me too that they like to see it at least 50. They call it a chemical pregnancy. Where there probably was chromosomal abnormalties and thats why it didn't take. But who knows miracles can happen. Hopefully it will for for your friend. Good luck to her!

Thats what I was afraid of. I hope it is not the case. And I am sorry for your loss. I should also mention (not sure if I already did) that she got a BFP on a HPT as well as on the beta blood test. MMMMMM, does that make a difference?

I wish I knew the answer to that. When I got the blood test result of 38 I never took an HPT. My doctor warned me not to. Those things screw with your head!!! Don't quote me, but it may just be that she has enough HCG in her blood to make a HPT positive. But the blood test is 100% accurate, so I would not depend on the HPT. Sorry wish I had better news for you. Let us know what happens.
