View Full Version : Mosquito bites...........

My daughter is 8 yrs. old and is having a terrible summer already due to mosquito bites. They love her. Her legs look awful, because she scratches her bites, picks at the scab and has terrible scars on her arms and legs both.
Her legs are worse than anything. I keep putting bandaids on them with triple anti-biotic cream and have even used, when they start to scab up, I put
the New-skin liquid on them.
Nothing is helping. Does anyone else have this problem? I know she probably could use some Bendadryl and I will start trying that today, but otherwise I am at my wits end with her.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

OK you asked.....Go to your local farm supply store... like Farm King, Tractor Supply, or a pet store. Get a square jar of what is called Bag Balm. I know... I know... but believe me, this stuff is awesome. We use it in long term care facilities for sores that wont heal...keep it covered with bandaid.
THe stuff doesnt smell great, but it does work!!

Are you covering her in insect repellant? I'm asking because it really does make a difference in the amount of bites she will get. Prevention is the best medicine!
AfterBite is good too. It helps take away the itch on contact and sooths.

:) Have you tried soaking in a bath of baking soda at night. It calms the skin and feels soft and stops the itch. I do it every night cause our child is the same. He is 5 and scratches till it bleeds and big big welts. I also heard making a paste of oatmeal is good too. Our son is autistic and doesnt like the texture but Aveeno itch creme is milder than afterbite cause afterbite has ammonia in it, hurts like a bugger if it's open. My child got all red and swollen after that. Benadryl is good at night to help them sleep too. I hope this helps you.:wave:

Hi;

I could have written this post about my daughter. She is 5 and soooo mad at me because she is covered in bandaides. She thinks everyone is going to laugh at her. I have done the bandaides and the triple antibiotic creme too.

It's a terrible year and for some reason she gets bit more than anyone. I do use the repellant and it helps for very brief periods of time then they are all over her again.

It's just awful.

Thanks for all your replies. Yes, I have tried bug repellents and Avon skin-so-soft and some drug store had the vanilla spray for bugs, too; but they don't help. Too bad their wasn't a shot for them or something.
You think there would be something out there for this problem!? But what is it? Thanks for the suggestion of bag balm. I'll have to try it.
She has to go the church camp this Fri. for one night-I hope she'll be OK!? What worries me the most is when the go swimming. They go 2 times, one on Fri. night then on Sat. afternoon before they come home. I always worry about the germs in and out of the pool, too! Oh, well they are just kids. They have to have some fun.
Happy 4th to everyone-stay safe and have fun.
