Is anyone taking this for just abdominal pain? I have tried Tums, Zantac, and Aciphex, but none of them worked, so my gastroenterologist put me on Zelnorm. Just wanted to know if anyone else was taking it, what for, and how they were doing. Thanks!

Hi there. I thought Zelnorm was for IBS-C; is that a problem you have? If not, you may be taking unnecessary medication. Hopefully someone will respond to your post with some advice.

Good luck to you,

I don't think I have IBS. I guess my doctor was trying it as a last resort. We've tried everything, and I think this is the last medication he's going to try before doing an endoscopy. I'm taking it for a month.

I am off of Zelnorm now. I was on it from January 8th to February 23rd. Since I was off of it, I haven't had any stomachaches! (But I had 2 severe ones when I was on it) The excessive gas is gone also. Let's hope that the stomachaches are gone (at least for a little while)!

omg- to anyone who has IBS that has diarhhea as the stool problem (as opposed to constipation or alternating) DO NOT TAKE THIS!!! along with abdominal pain and bloating, diarhhea was my big symptom...the zelnorm gave me mild cramping and VERY WATERY diarhhea...not severe, but definately unpleasant. b/c i often have soft, pellet-like, and loose stools, my doc tried levbid...its great!!! hope this helps somebody!

Zelnorm is for IBS constipation type and definitely not for diarrhea.
