My 80 year mom, who's been on Hyzaar once a day for some time has just been prescribed Lisinopril 2x a day. Are these contraindicated? If not, I presume I should give the Lisinopril in the am and pm, 12 hours apart, and maybe the Hyzaar mid-day?
Any advice or experience is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks in advance,
AliciaL

They are not contraindicated. You should give Hyzaar and the first dose of lisinipril in the morning after checking her blood pressure, no later than 9am. The second dose of lisinopril should be given no later than 6pm and always check blood pressure before giving.

Maybe not contraindicated but possibly wasteful.
It's a three drug combination: lisinopril, losartan and thiazide.
The lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor that prevents the formation of angiotensin-2: if it is doing it's job then there is no need for an angiotensin-2 blocker.
If, on the other hand the lisinopril has stopped working necessitating the ARB (losartan), then perhaps the lisinopril could be done away with.
I wouldn't take both.
If the Hyzaar is stopped than an added precription for HCTZ, the thiazide diuretic, is wise.
