I have been hearing a lot about this on another board. It supplies all the minerals that are needed and is a great detoxifier as well. There are different kinds (brands) of clay but I chose one called Terramin as someone mentioned she uses it for osteoporosis with great results as well as for another illness I am dealing with. No other calcium supplementation is needed with this product. I know that I have mentioned other products here (when I hear about them,) but I actually ordered this one.

Is it something you ingest as a pill or put on your skin?

There is a type that you put on your skin but this is taken internally.

I would probably like the one that is applied topically. My concern about ingesting clay is...do we absorb clay ? How will it work ? Somehow I don't picture clay metabolizing inside our bodies.

The use of clay (internally) is ancient. You could easily find more information. I would look under the words Terramin or French green clay.

Peregrine -- I'm new to the boards, but have been looking at your posts-- especially re Ezorb last month just before I went on vacation. Now I come back and see you are favoring green clay, mentioning no other calcium supplementation is needed. Are you going off of Ezorb? Have you had a change of mind about it? Thanks for the info.

Laluz,
I learned of the Terramin clay from other lists. It was found that when the astronauts returned to earth they had osteoporosis, so research was conducted at UCLA to see what would address this. They found that Terramin reversed osteo in mice and then in humans as well and is now used by Astronauts.
Clay contains many minerals we need and is rich in calcium. It also binds to toxins that reside in the body, such as parasites, bacteria and heavy metals and removes them. It is also beneficial for specific GI issues and cleansing the digestive tract and helps the body recover from many types of illness.
For more information on clay and its uses, I've heard that the book The Healing Power of Clay is a good one and plan to purchase it myself. But using clay to maintain health is nothing new. It has been in use for eons. Well, a very long time :D
So now to your question (finally, huh?) After reading The Myth of Osteoporosis I changed my thinking about osteo. I also realized that I hadn't been paying attention to my Z score, which I think far more relavent than the T Score, that my doc only takes into account (and then wants to put me on drugs  ) Looking at my Z score from my last Dexa Scan confirmed (for me) that I'm actually in pretty good shape for my age.
I am always open to the best possible (natural) supplementation I can find to maintain health. I still think Ezorb a good product and that it definitely helped to positively tweak my numbers. But if clay can supply me with calcium, plus other minerals I need and do all the other things they claim it does, not to mention the reduction in cost, then I am "all ears." So I am taking the Terramin but I still have 3/4 bottle of Ezorb left. I decided to reduce my intake of it to 1 capsule a day and when the bottle is gone I will not reorder. I will continue taking the clay and try to assess how I feel, etc.
But I intuitively have a good feeling about it and already it seems to have balanced out my bowel movements. If, down the line, I feel that I need Ezorb again I will certainly take it, but for now I want a clear field to determine the effectiveness of the clay. People on other lists who have/had osteo say this is now all they take, so we will see.

Can I ask where you purchase your Terramin clay, Peregrine? And when you say it's helped balance out your bowel movements, do you mean you aren't constipated? That is my biggest problem right now, even with 1500 mg of magnesium. I'm sure it's from high doses of calcium, but i would like to try the clay.
While googling, i found much info, including something on animal studies which indicated this substance promoted weight gain. Hopefully this doesn't apply to humans, lol.

Hypatia,
I do not think that we are allowed to post information about where to purchase products. If I am wrong, someone please let me know. I will tell you that the company where I purchased (although I'm sure there are many others) is located in California, so that should be relatively easy to research.
By balancing bowel movements, I mean it regulated and bulked them. I have the opposite problem from you - frequent diarrhea. I think whatever your problem, it tends to regulate the whole digestive tract as it removes toxins and such, but you might want to research thoroughly first and/or take a look at a book on the subject. I always try to do this first before going down a new road.
I haven't gained weight but I've only been using it for (I think) about 6 weeks.
Best,
P.

Thanks, Peregrine for your reply. I'll be interested in following your experiences. I ordered a case of ezorb last month to share with a relative, so will be using that at least until it's gone. I also have the myth book on order--comments on Amazon were very convincing it is worth a read. I had not heard before about astronauts and osteoporosis and clay. I sure appreciate your transparency with us on your own experiences. I will try to let others know how ezorb works for me over the next few months.

Peregrine--Do you try to eat foods containing calcium even though you're taking the green clay? I'm guessing from your posts that you aren't taking calcium supplements now. I'm curious to know if the green clay is enough. Thanks.

greentree,
The only thing I do in the way of eating is to eat low carb. I also only buy from the HFS; thus, organic fruit and veggies as well. Clay is supposedly very rich in calcium, as well as other minerals and such, so no, right now I'm not taking any other supplement (other than 1 capusle of Ezorb to finish off the bottle I have.)
btw: French Green Clay is one option, but I'm taking the Terramin Clay that was used in the Astronaut program.
Whatever I post here is just information about what I'm doing. I'm not trying to advocate that others do the same. I have learned more from various health lists than from any doctor I have ever been to, so I continue to sleuth them out for relevant information as well as to share whatever I am doing. I see health boards as a new and positive direction in our healthcare options

Hello peregrine - You certainly seem to turn up some interesting products. I would never have thought of green clay - in fact my first thought was that it would clog up your insides completely. I still can't figure it out but I have found a UK supplier and sure enough it says it has been tested on astronauts at NASA. Even better it's much cheaper than Ezorb (especially with postage to Europe). I think it's in powder form rather than tablets - have you tried it yet? I am off on holidays for a couple of weeks but I am definitely going to order it when I get back and give it a go. I'm on Fosamax which I agreed I would give a year and I'm also taking an Indian herbal supplement which is fine but I'm not happy about taking Fosamax long term and hope to find something else - I don't expect my doctor would be happy to hear I am going to take a green clay supplement;) but never mind that. Thanks for the information - keep up the good work:)

Suzieuk,
The Terramin comes in both tablets and powder. I purchased the powder because 1) you get much more for your $ and 2) it was recommended that the powder is more effective.
I simply put 1 tsp. in 1/4 C. H2O and let it sit for awhile. I take it in the evening so that it won't bind to any supplements I'm taking (you should take it a few hours away from other supplements). You also need to drink a lot of water afterward.
