Okay, so I took Loestrin for 3 months, but then I had to switch to the generic microgestin. I feel like I'm getting more headaches/more tired on microgestin. Isn't it the same thing as loestrin? Is it possible that my body would react differently to the two? Or am I just noticing the symptoms more? Thanks for your help : ) I appreciate it.

A generic drug is supposed to be the same thing as the Name brand... I would call your pharmacy and ask them about it, or ask your doctor about it. But the pharmacists usually can be very helpful, especially with questions about side effects and drug interactions. Good luck!

Some people have problems with generic pills. Generics do contain the same medications as name brand but sometimes, generic versions of a drug have different colors, flavors, or combinations of inactive ingredients than the original medications. In the U.S. I think, trademark laws don't allow generic drugs to look the same as their name-brand counterparts. So it may be some of the inactive ingredients in the generic version causing the problems for you. I know my husband takes medication for his thyroid and once he was given a generic version of the medication and it made him all tired and have absolutely no energy. He switched back to the brand name and everything is fine.

i was really nervous about taking the pill... so i looked up loestrin and microgestin .. it seems like alot of people like loestrin better, that they can feel the difference. they were complaining that microgestrin gave them alot of trouble and ended up switching back to loestrin. i never went on loestrin.. but with microgestin i have been getting alot of headaches.. i have also been feeling really bloated. my dr told me that if the headaches don't go away... or if they cannot be relieved with tylenol i need to come back in.. because it can raise ur blood pressure

I have been on Microgestin for about 7-8 months now and have had a lot of problems with it. My periods are irregular, have been moody, nausea, etc.
The last few pills of my pack before the placebo pills at the end tend to cause me to feel exhausted, weak, lethargic and sick to my stomach. I have been doing some reading and research on hormone imbalances and seem to have some of the same symptoms discussed there. After talking with my doctor, I am going off birth control altogether. The more reading I do with putting in these chemical, artificially created hormones the more I am ready to be done and do something more natural until my husband and I decide to have children. Hope this helps anyone that may have had similar issues with Microgestin or birth control in general.
* FYI...if you're going the natural route, we have heard good things about the system where you observe your moisture levels throughout the month to determine times of most/least fertile to desire/prevent pregancy.

I work in pharmacy and yes the generic is exactly the same. there is 2 typed of generics. 1 is the exact same drug from the same company just shoved into a different box and the other is the same 'reciepie' made by a different company. ask your local pharmacist which one that perticular generic is. if its by a different company sometimes they put a different die or some other component in it (like extra sugar in my cake and not in yours)
