Do you mind elaborate more on the social anxiety disorder improvement? Thanks. Anyway, I had ordered the Omega Joy and is still waiting for the goods to come now.

Do you take the pill once in the morning and then another in the afternoon? Do you take it before or after your meal or rather which one yeild the best result?

Noto, I've taken one with breakfast, then the other at lunch for the most part. Sometimes I've taken both about an hour after breakfast and find that it has a quicker calming effect when taking 2 at once. Then for a long time I took 2 at once after breakfast. As far as Soc. Anxiety goes I find that the oil works as good as Clonazapam for calmness in front of people, without the zombie side effects of Clonazapam and other anti-anxiety meds. Glad I don't take that stuff anymore.

Some people on these boards take their fish oil all together at suppertime because it helps them sleep better. It's all personal preference and convenience. I think eating whole fish several times a week is really helping me too. I also take maca (500mg) and He Shou Wu daily to help keep my hormones balanced which will help mood too.

gort,

your doctor said you could have possible nerve damage from the stress and depression you've gone through? Cause I'm also dealing with short term memory problems, concentration, issues etc. Maybe the years of stress and depression that I've gone through have caused nerve damage? Is there anyway to test for that?

...I've also thought that the fillings could be contributing to some of my health issues such as the short term memory problems. ..

I don't know if there's a test but how do they know when diabetics have neuropathy...must be some kind of test. My doctor was assessing my tendency to startle easily as well as my sensation that all the nerves in my body seem to be vibrating. My finger tips, my toes, everything has this strange sensation of vibrating and not being able to relax. Epsom salt baths or extra magnesium does not help this. If there is a test he knows I can't afford it and has never mentioned one. He recommended I take Alpha GPC (Glycero Phosphoro Choline) to rebuild cells. Unfortunately it makes me very agitated and could not finish the bottle. I found a product called Ortho Mind by A.O.R. It has a similar choline factor in it, plus various Ayurvedic/Chinese/Aminos that bring more circulation to the brain. It also has r-Alpha lipoic acid. I just take one or two caps a day or I will get too hyper. I think you and I have a long healing ahead of us and we need to be patient, yes? He recommended a physical therapy called Feldenkreis classes for my nerves. It's expensive. I did one session. I think Pilates do just as good a job. I do feel very relaxed after a one hour class of Pilates. I'll have to get into it again.

Also, you might have mercury exposure from flu vaccines and childhood inocculations. Thimerosol is the preservative and it contains mercury.

Best, gort

Noto,

Thanks for the quick reply. Is it ok for me to take 2 in the morning and perhaps another 2 in the afternoon/evening time? any side effect from this so far for u?

gort

The researchers were curious about this too. So one group took 4 grams of EPA daily, divided doses, and showed no additional or speeded up effect. Save money and take the max dose of Omega Joy as stated on the bottle. 2 caps = 1000mg EPA. Try to eat wild salmon often, too, so you are getting some DHA. Your body will store it and convert it into EPA as needed.

Yesterday I took one at 10am and a second cap at 6pm. I was a bit drowsy by 8:30pm and generally speaking had a quieter mind. Not so many jumpy thoughts. I didn't notice any difference in my sleep last night, though. Try taking both at supper for a few days and see how you feel.

I see. I think I will try the 2x500mg early in the morning before i took my breakfast. how do u think of it? Speaking from your stand, normlly within how many days under such circumstance will i get to see the result? Still patiently waiting for my overseas Omega Joy to reach me!

The studies that were done showed improved mood after one week. I felt considerably better after a week, too. Small improvements continue over time.

I posted the study summaries in the original thread that is now closed. It's somewhere in the first 5 or 6 pages.

i have been trying it on for 4 days already. on the 4th days, i can see a difference in me in sleeping better and "not so easily get fatigue". Hope to see more improvement as time goes especially anxiousity sweating. Been taking it 2x500 in the morning and 1x500 in the evening time. How do you think of such dosage?

Hey noto. If it's Omega Joy you're speaking of, you probably don't need the 500mg at night. If it's helping your sleep routine, by all means, but the studies tried 4000mg of EPA per day and didn't find any better results than the group taking 1000mg per day. It won't hurt you but it will be cheaper to stick to 2 x 500 a day. I too tried to accelerate the process by taking extra when I first started and didn't notice anything other than drowsiness. So, yeah, the extra one at night would have a good sedating effect if desired. I'm happy for you that the shipment finally arrived. It's a great product.
Cheers.

what kind of fish oil is this you're all speaking of? Is this the omega 3 pills? How safe is it to take? What is the dosage? I prefer not to take antidepression pills and i heard a lot of talk about how fish oil should help with mild depression.

SusanGene

**ALL** fish oil supplements are omega 3's. Typical dose? 1,000 milligrams or one gram daily. Far as safety? I think it's unsafe not to take fish oil.
I had been taking Country Life Omega Fish Body Oils but just switched to
what you might call, "the latest" which is KriaXanthin Antarctic KRILL OIL.
1,000 mg per gelcap, it says to take 2 which I do. It also has vitamins A and E in it. I think Krill is a deep sea fish.
Some of this interest in fish oils is related to the Meditteranean diet (can't spell it) that utilizes a lot of fish. But those people also drink a lot of red wine that ALSO cleans out the arteries.
Many people don't eat any kind of fish.
I know two people, and this is probably irrelevant, that hate fish. ONe just had triple bypass surgery and the other has high blood pressure and high blood fats. They eat a lot of meat and pastries. One of them is on blood pressure medication. You'd think it would help, right? She goes to her dr. twice a year to get her BP checked. EVERY SINGLE TIME she goes, the doctor doubles her BP medication. Therefore, I have to think it isn't working. Fish oil somehow goes thru your arteries, mopping up the fats lining the walls that get clogged up with
mostly beef fats and dairy fats. It makes me nervous to think of having my arteries lined with thick fat, restricting blood flow, inviting a heart attack.
OF course, there are people with incredible genes who have eaten beef all their lives, rarely ate fish, and are over 90 . My ex MIL is 95. She uses a cane, is still home, but has always eaten tuna fish (which has gotten a bad rap lately involving mercury). Personally, I'd rather risk the mercury and cut way down on the beef fats by eating fish and fish oil caps.
I am sixty two and go to the doctor about once every eight years - by that time, I'm usually sick from something.
Another substance that is TERRIFIC to take for blood fats is garlic. Raw garlic cloves are most llikely the best source but most take deodorized garlic capsules. I use garlic a lot in cooking. Then, of course, is olive oil for cooking. It isn't cheap but how much is your health worth to you?
For depression, mild depression, I take tryptophan and fish oil.

is there a particular brand you all recommend or it doesn't really matter? As in i could just go to Target and buy some omega-3/fish oil pills? I also heard there are particular vitamins you're suppose to take along with the fish oil? I heard mixed reports online from one should avoid vitamin A & E to one should take vitamin E along with the fish oil? Something about the need for fat-soluble antioxidants and preventing the fish oil from oxidizing and become rancid in your body? Any truth behind this?

SusanGene
07-23-2006, 07:32 PM
I guess you could just go to target or walgreens and buy their supplements.
But I don't. I buy from online stores that handle mostly supplements and there's a big turnover . That is, there are so many thousands of people ordering that I would think it tends to keep the supplies fresher. Just my two cents.
I cannot imagine vitamin E doing anything other than preserving whatever it finds itself in. This is serious business to me; I take fresh stuff and pay for shipping. I will cut back on other things but not vitamins. Besides; when you buy online you get to do hours of research on what you're buying. In a store, you often feel rushed and just grab the cheapest stuff they've got.

The brand that is geared toward Major Depressive Disorder is Omega Joy by Genuine Health. One capsule has 500mg of EPA and very little DHA (25mg). Two caps is the daily dose (1000mg EPA). The reason for this formulation is that the studies for Maj dep. proved that precisely this amount of PURE EPA and NO DHA greatly improved symptoms of Major Depression. Whereas DHA was found to interfere with EPA's action. So...1000mg of fish oil DOES NOT mean there is 1000mg of EPA. The label will tell you the breakdown of EPA and DHA. THE ONLY BRAND in North America that has this formulation is Genuine Health's Omega Joy. Vitamin E is in the capsule to prevent oxidation, so it's not necessary to take vitamin E with it. (unless you take a vitamin E supplement). They are enteric coated to prevent burping and aftertaste, and contain no mercury or other contaminants. More info on the studies can be read in the Fish oil and antidepressants thread started 12-27-2005. I have requested that thread to be posted as a sticky, but have not received word from administrators yet.

going to be 2 weeks since i first started using the 0mega joy... it had been good all this while especially in the concentration and fear department but for the past 2 days, it seems to relapse again... the good feeling and concentration seem to have faded slowly. perhaps due to the effect of taking chinese herb soup or perhaps not 2 days ago... i have been taking the 1000epa in the morning and 500 in the evening time. it seems regardless what time i sleep, i would always wake up at 7+8+ feeling quite refresh. if only i can choose to sleep longer... i was thinking of eating just 1000epa in the morning and that's it. However, not sure if the healing effect will be stop when i am sleeping so decide to add on another 1 epa 500mg in the evening time.

I picked up some fish oil that are 1000mg EPA from Walmart that are suppose all natural without all the chemicals, etc. However when I checked the ingredients it mentioned how it doesn't have a vitamin E suppliment in it. So i decided to take a vitamin E suppliment along with it to act as an antioxident. However the lowest dose vitamin E i could find were 200iu which is 667% the daily value, am i taking too much vitamin E to? Does anyone know of any brand of fish oil that has vitamin E suppliment included in the fish oil so i don't have to take two pills (preferably a store i can just go to, for instance, target, vitamin world, etc)?

SusanGene
07-30-2006, 06:53 PM
natural omega 3 by Country Life has 10mg of E but 200-400 of natural E daily won't hurt you a bit. They just list the MINIMUM DAILY REQUIREMENTS on those labels. Which I ignore
If people were dropping dead from 200-400mg of E a day it would be off the shelves before you could say, "FDA."

I was just concerned that taking too much vitamin E might actually increase the oxidation proess of the fish oil

Eatnow - Can you tell me what the brand is that you found at Wal-mart? How many capsules do you have to take to get the 1,000 EPA? I went to a local health food store last week and I couldn't find any with that much EPA, so I was thinking about ordering the Omega Joy, but I'm sure what you got was a lot cheaper.

I don't recall since i threw them away and purchased a new brand from vitamin world which contains about 1IU or 3% of your daily percentage of vitamin E. However the brand from walmart that i purchased only had one brand and its the one with the enteric coated gel or whatever, that prevents the fish burps, etc. I'm just confused as to how much I should take since there really is no strong scientific evidence of how much a person really should take for it to be effective, 1000mg, etc.

if fish oil works for you, then go for it. For me, it doesn't. I take
1500-2,000mg of Doctor's Best L-Tryptophan daily and in 2 days I feel emotionally terrific. It's amazing and at Least it's antidepressant effects are documented all over the internet. I take 400-800 mg of E
and fish oils/grapeseed extract for knee pain/ clean arteries.

If we can only absorb a small portion of a capsule or pill , it is often all we need anyway or the companies would go bankrupt. The fish oil I take is in gelcap form; that is, a liquid with a gelatin covering.
I have sometimes thought we should just go all the way and buy liquid vitamins but since they taste so terrible they're not popular.
Spending 1k dollars a year on vitamins I feel I know a little about them.
We do NOT KNOW all the great things many supplements can do for us.
It's like with herbs and homeopathy; we don't know how homeopathics work but they do. I bless the day I found Hyland's Insomnia homeopathic sublinguals. They knock me out each night. But if I'm really excited or upset they don't work. 90% of the time they do work in 20 minutes.
The benefits of fish oil are numerous and far reaching. My newest one that gives me a terrible taste in my mouth is KRILL OIL from the antarctic. Those are the gelcaps. Country Life's Fish Body Oils are much more pleasant. Those are also gelcaps. I'm not too trustful of hard tablets either; how much they dissolve is questionable. BUT when taking them in PRESCRIPTION FORM THEY ALWAYS WORK as in Bactrim tablets. So this isn't an exact science.

then my sister found a company that approaches health and wellness the right way - natures way - how do you expect to get the same results from a vitamin that is made from a company who uses inferior products and uses chemicals to get results

what company and supplements are you talking about? Are you saying that she found a great company that makes a superior product? If so, can you tell me who it is? I am trying to find a good one for me as well.

Thanks

she said the company is Natures Way. I don't think the average consumer has any way of knowing which company makes the best supplements. We also don't know how long they've been sitting around on store shelves.

Vitacost's NSI products - are a great. Usually cheaper priced then some others.

I also recommend Puritan's Pride because they are directly manufactured. No middleman involved so prices stay low! Puritan's Pride has a very large verity of different Omega-3 Fish Oils - plus they always have a sale.

BTW: I DO NOT sell these product's - just use them myself!

Be Well, AFH

noto - I would try my best not to take ANY anti-depressants as they have been linked to the opposite effect .... that of suicide. Doctors are always trying to push their product because they are getting financed by the drug companies. Every single time there was something in the news about kids shooting up a school, and there was an investigation done, it was found that one or more of the parties were on anti-depressants. Not to mention synthetic drugs are an unnatural thing that is not supposed to be in the human body. Every single synthetic drug has side effects and you don't need to develop a problem that requires another pill down the road from some side effects you could gain from taking a pill for a different problem. If you want a more natural, safer alternative, get yourself some Carlson liquid fish oil (one teaspoon twice a day with meals...a good quality omega-3 fatty acid has been linked to help with depression), get a half hour to an hour of sun without using any creams on your skin (the sun is a natural anti-depressant and the creams are toxic and many linked to cancer) and exercise for at least a half hour to an hour a day(exercise releases dopamines which are naturally-occuring chemicals in your brain that make you feel good). Look up some a technique called "Emotional Freedom Technique" (EFT) which is a proven method to help people with everything from overcoming smoking, fear, bad habits, phobias, to depression. Try watching a lot of comedy movies, stand up on tv, read a lot of good, clean jokes and/or books, hang out with friends that are positive and upbeat, and if you believe in God, praying doesn't hurt! Hope this all helps!

Hey, Noto. Have you tried the new Omega Joy in liquid form, yet? I bought a bottle this time for a change from the capsules. It tastes like orange sherbet and will last 3 months at 2ml a day and 200ml in the bottle. So quite a bit cheaper than the caps. I mix it in my kefir.

Hi gort:wave: After reading through this thread and the other one that is closed, I went out and bought the Omega Joy. But I gotta tell ya, it does not taste like orange sherbet - it taste like fish oil with orange rind in it, yuk! I think I'm going to try to mix it in something next time. I found a store that supplies all of the General Health Omega formulas so I'm crossing my fingers that it helps me to feel better. I have mild depression with anxiety thrown in there just for fun. I have tried the anti-depressent route once and absolutely hated the meds so I'm hoping this works. Thanks for sharing about your experiences:)

I shake the bottle first and usually stir it into yogurt, but I find the taste pleasing. Didn't you put it in the fridge? Room temp will make it taste fishy. You can also use the Omega Joy capsules. I used them for a year but now the liquid is cheaper for me.

Putting it in the fridge helped a lot!! I take it straight from the spoon in the morning. :) Well, I have faithfully taken 1/2 tsp every morning now for about 3 weeks. I have noticed a slight difference but I am going to give it at least 3 months before I decide whether or not the Omega Joy is for me or not. The other supplements that I take are b50, calcium/mag/d combo, vit.c/1000, evening of prim, 4 tbs of hemp hearts and I use a natural progesterone Cream. I think that the Omega Joy is complementing the other things that I take, though I think I may need to cut the hemp hearts down a bit.

I'm trying it now. Mine is called o3mega+Joy and it's especially formulated for mood elevation. I can't say for sure how much it's helping because I was so desperate I started on three things at once. I also take Inositol 650 mg capsules, one three times a day, and I take one 250 mg of magnesium oxide. My pharmacist told me to be sure and take them with food and to take the magnesium oxide separate from any other medications I'm taking. Like one hour before or after. She's been a big help for me with trying to find something that I can take. I always try to take the magnesium by it's self.
I am doing so much better on this than I ever did on any anti-depressants and no side effects. I'm drug sensitive so had a real hard time with the anti-depressants. From the research I've been doing it looks like a lot of people take much higher doses than I'm taking but as long as this is working for me I'm not going to increase mine.
