Hi All

I have recently been diagnosed with IBS.I had it for a week, symptoms went away for a week and now I have had it for 3 further weeks.

I have constant stomach bloating or distended abdomen whcih is very uncomfortable.I have been tested for allergies and stomach bugs and am all clear.

They think this is caused by stress as my mum died recently...but will it ever go away or do I have to live it.I hate looking like a beach ball! I normally have a very slim physique and its really aggravating!!

I have been taking colpermin and mebeverin and peppermint tea.

Any tips or advice for constant bloating...I have no other symptoms but that!

Will this ever go??

Thanx for your help

Hi Dizzy

Try and give your bowel a rest from food for 24 hours and drink water. Sometimes water can bloat people more, but once your stomach gets used to it, it is the best thing to help the digestive system.

After the 24 hours gradually start on a light diet, avoid bread as this makes people bloat, avoid pasta and rice as it has high carbs and carbs can also make people bloat. Also reduce your portion sizes and eat slower. A general guide is to eat portions no bigger than the fist. Alos smaller meals throughout the day instead 3 meals daily is alot easier on the gut.

Try eating some yoghurt daily, or even better buy yourself some good probiotics.

Good luck and i hope this helps you

Try Prilosec. It's a acid reducer and should help with the bloating. And, it is safe to take for more than 14 days.
