My dad who started Folfox last Thursday was admitted to hospital yesterday due to low pulse, confusion, absolutely no energy, no strength, not enough to even sip water. His ammonia levels were 3 times a normal level. He was given lactuluse (sp?) to bind and clear the ammonia from his system. His liver function is already poor due to the tumors and cirrohsis on his liver. Does anyone have any experience with this and could give me any advice/information? I would appreciate any info available? Thank you.

It sounds as though your Dad became EXTREMELY dehydrated. I don't know how old he is, but maybe he needs someone to be with him at the house... to help him get fluids, food, etc.; remind him that he needs to keep well-hydrated. Usu. your pulse would quicken if you are dehydrated, but chemo does funny things, and he might be on an anti-anxiety, or possibly anti-hypertensives from beforehand??? Just food for thought.:confused:
