To all of you new to asthma the best thing you can do to help you dr is to log how you are feeling everytime you use a resuce inhaler and how many times a day you use it. It has helped a great deal in getting my cough controlled. You don't really realize how many times you do something until it is in front of you in writting. It turned out that I was using my inhaler way too much, as much as 4 times a day, day after day. But I had also noted how I was feeling and and wheter or not it helped. You also tend to underestimate how much you do something when you try to remember back. When my dr saw the log he was shocked and deceided to try me on albuterol pills. (It works out to something like 100x the dose in the average puff.) Well It has been a miracle drug for me. I've just about completely stopped coughing. I haven't been this good in months. But with out my log I might still be struggling to stop my cough.
Just to note I am also on Advair 250/50 2x day, Nexium 40mg 1x day (Switched from protonix 2x day at my request, it's cheaper), Reglan 2x day and now Albuterol Sulfate 4mg 1x day. Sometimes I feel like a drug addict. :)
