Hi guys,
New to this board, first post, but read all the time. I need to lose about 100 pounds. I have a problem with portion control. Can I eat large amounts of healthy foods such as fresh cooked veggies, like green beans, cabbage, etc.and still lose weight if I keep my total days calories to around 1200-1400?
Also, exercise is not a good option right now as I am recovering from back fusion surgery. Opinions, suggestions welcomed! Thanks.

Green beans, cabbage, etc. are great foods for those trying to lose weight, however, it is never wise to eat "large portions" of any food. We need our stomach to shrink and not be accustomed to being stretched to max capacity and us feeling like we need to fill it up.

Many of us eat until we are full which is different than eating enough to be satisfied. We must learn to stop before the tank is full!! Eating slow and chew each small bite of food at least 20 times before swallowing. This helps give the body heads up on becoming satisfied before the tank is stuffed.

Measuring food will go a long ways in learning portion control. A serving of green beans is 1/2 cup, same for other green veggies.

I lost 65 lbs. by eating 3 oz. lean meat, 1/2 cup green veg, another 1/2 cup green veg or small salad for lunch and also for dinner. Breakfast was oatmeal, 2 tablespoons cooked in water. When hungry between meals, drink ice water.
