I was wondering what people here thought about juicers, and what they claim to do, such as raising a person's energy level, being more nutritious than just eating a fruit or vegetable, etc? Some juicers are cheaper, while others cost hundreds of dollars. Is it worth it to buy a more expensive one such as the Vitamix? I'd like to get one that doesn't have a really loud motor. Also, being able to put some whole fruits into the juicer, without having to slice the fruits, is nice.

A lot of them are next to impossible to clean. Even if they are dishwasher safe, the pieces will probably fill the whole dishwasher.
Do you really want to spend 45 minutes cleaning out the juicer after one use?
Buy a blender instead and make smoothies. (They actually look similar to that vitamix one). I would go with an oster blender, my parents have one circa 1982 that is still blending good. Plus oster makes lots of replacement parts (new blades, seals, covers) so you can use it forever.

We bought a juicer at Sam's Club and it just sits on our counter taking up space and collecting dust. It is a pain to clean, and you hardly get any juice!! It's going in the next yard sale. :)

I didn't even bother to sell mine. I gave it away a couple of years ago. Like another poster said, cleaning it is a bi * tch. My $200 juicer had more parts than the space shuttle. And just try to get the strainer basket clean...........:dizzy: LOL
A blender really does make great smoothies and blenders are cheap.

Juicers are a waste of money. IMHO.
Eat the fruits and vegetables instead and get all the nutritious healthy fiber.
Maybe a different story for someone with all his teeth removed or his jaw wired shut...God gave us teeth to chew with for a reason.:D

I agree, a blender would be best, that way you get everything and not just the juice. I have an old juicer that I probably won't ever use again, it took me over 10 whole carrots just to get an average glass of juice... never again.

Couldn't agree more. The juicer I have is the biggest pain in the a** to assemble and clean. I used it a few times, but now it is sitting in the back of my cupboard. I use my blender to make fruit smoothies.

This is too funny! Why didn't I find this board before wasting over $200 on my Omega Juicer???
Well, I was scared. I was told I had a mass on my liver. So I read up on liver cleansing and found that juicing would help me out!
Well... I followed the recipe for the liver cleanse and let me tell you. I had to stand over the sink as I drank it because I was literally heaving and almost threw up! Beets and alphalpha sprouts... ewwwww
Since that time (in March) I've used it twice, just for fruit. I doubt I'll ever use veggies again.. They are really disgusting LOL
As far as cleaning it? Umm.. grapefruit is such a pain.. So yeah.. go with the smoothie from a blender plan. :p
Jack LaLane (spelling) makes a powerful juicer that fits whole apples and cucumbers in its shoot. It is a quiet motor and a lot of juice comes out. The pulp is dry, which you can make soup and salsa with. The parts are few and are dishwasher safe. It's just under $200. Sometimes it's called jacksjuicer. He has an infomercial. Money back guarantee, I think.

I have the Jack LaLane juicer and I LOVE IT! It's fast, quiet, easy to disassemble, easy to clean, and you dont have to cut things into tiny pieces. It also comes with a giant recipe book. I typically use fruit, haven't really gotten into the veggies yet. My 14 year old son and all of his friends love it too...they're always wanting me to concoct something! lol
