Hi,
CFS is not just about being tired. This is a debilitating illness that affects almost every bodily system. Do you also feel fluey? If so, for how long? CFS usually starts with a fluey feeling that lasts 6 to 9 months.
Could you be anemic? Have you had your thyroid checked? Either of these things could certainly cause the tired feeling you are having. I would check these things out first.
All the best.

You should first see your GP but dont be discouraged if they dont take you seriously...then you may need to see: a sleep specialist (you could have a sleep disorder), an immunologist, psychiatrist etc...important to have a full battery of blood tests. a big one: have you had your thyroid and iron levels tested? if not, just request that. also, are you on any prescription drugs?
that being said, ive had the blood tests and they revealed nothing...its very frustrating but there are ppl willing to help if you seek them out. I am now about to start light therapy (see my post in depression) ill let u know how it goes

Do you snore? If so, ask to have a sleep study to look for sleep apnea. It can happen in a person of any weight although it is more common with a person who is either heavy or has a large neck size.

Psychoscream:
Do you have adrenal fatigue? How is your doctor treating you? Just curious. I'm having a lot of symptoms of adrenal fatigue---the feeling like I'm walking around in a dream all of the time is horrendous with me.

Yeah, I definitely think I've got it. It's been ongoing, but the stresses of the last 5 years sort of "broke the camel's back". That's when I started getting a low pulse, dizziness, feeling like I was in a dream...
I've started using progesterone cream on my arms, twice a day, and I think it's helping. B vitamins are also necessary for the adrenal glands, and I heard that they are necessary to make progesterone cream work. Vitamin C is also helpful.
Something interesting... There was a doctor who was able to maintain patients with Addison's disease on salt alone. This was years ago, before hormone replacement therapy was available. So now I'm putting about 1/8 tsp. salt in each glass of water I drink. It tastes wonderful, actually. They say if it tastes good then you've probably got adrenal fatigue. (Regular water actually makes me feel a little sick.)
I'm also putting a 1:1 mixture of flax and sunflower oil in my food. People with adrenal fatigue need more oil in their diets (except for deep-fried foods). The adrenal glands need oil to make important hormones for the body.
My thyroid also seems to be low. I'm putting a small drop from a special iodine tincture on my arm every day. Iodine deficiency means the thyroid gland can't work right. The extra iodine is definitely helping my pulse and energy level.
EDIT: You can probably tell... My doctor isn't doing anything for me. She is ignoring my symptoms.

You know... The book "Adrenal Fatigue", by James L. Wilson, has been really helpful for me. This is what I've been reading lately. Lots of people know about it. It's a good, informative book with lots of helpful info and strategies.

Psychoscream,
Your instincts are good. There is a protocol called salt/c in which they are used in combination (salt and vitamin C) up to 15, 16 grams each a day for Lymes and CFS which is now thought to be a symptom of Lymes. I am on it myself. If interested, I'm sure you could find info. as it is being used quit widely.

If you're interested in learning about the book you can browse Amazon.com for some reviews, or go to www.adrenalfatigue.org for some free info.
EDIT: Anti-Social, it's remotely possible that your problem could be too much magnesium in your blood. That can be caused by over-absorption or kidney problems. Have your doctor give you a blood test to check your serum magnesium levels.
I saw a different doctor and told her my symptoms. Well, she actually took me seriously. Monday I get my blood drawn, and the lab is going to check my liver and kidneys, thyroid, my nutritional state, and my serum magnesium levels.

All the tests came back normal. I am living in hell, and nobody can find a reason.
Anti Social, I wish you luck. That's about all I can do.

Hi Antisocial
I have had CFS for 12 years but I have not always been ill with it...it seems to come in waves which can last for months even years.
I was doing well up until about 2 years ago when I caught the gastric flu and this put be straight back to bed......The feelings you are describing are exactly what I have felt when it is at its worse...Like you've been drugged and like you are in a bubble...it messes with my vision and my hearing and I have other nervous system type symptoms too.
My thyroid levels plummeted (despite my TSH level being in the normal range, FT4 went to the bottom end of the scale) also my pulse slowed down and my blood pressure dropped. I have major blood sugar swings, which can cause migraines and make me feel like I am gonna pass out. I have tried everything under the sun to help me and these are the things that I have found to be useful: A long with a good diet I have found a lactose and gluten free diet helps and I also had a food intolerance test (via the blood test) and I eliminated potato and various other things. I take supplements as well. Don't just cut out sugar..I tried to do that and your body cannot cope with it, I also tried to lower my salt intake also a big mistake...if anything increase your salt intake.
I went to see a Dr in Brussels who gave me heavy duty antibotics (ciproxin) for 3 months 10 days on and I think it was 2 weeks off with probiotics (VSL3) this was to kill off many harmful bacterias in my digestive system that can cause lowered immune system and inflammation..I take enzymes with every meal to help with absorption etc. The other thing that was very very helpful is taking a steroid called florinF..it is a steroid that increases blood pressure and although I am pretty much against taking medications like steroids it has helped so much that I want to stay on them.
I bought some immunopro protein powder which also helped with buliding my immune system and vitamin C....I didn't fancy B12 shots so I went online and found a compnay that sells 5mg doses of B12 sublingual tabs and I take 2 of them a day (as they are less effective than shots 2 a day seems to help).....I feel overal almost normal again (at the moment) still can't work yet though but I feel stronger than I have done for a long time so something is working....feel free to ask anything else and if I think of anything else I have done I will let you know...but one of the key points is to assume you have a virus or nasty harmful bacterias in your digestive system and things like garlic and caprylic acid etc can help to kill em off.....the probiotics VSL3 have been so helpful too....
Also..forgot to mention blood tests that may show abnomalities are CRP, ESR, blood sugar levels, cortisol, and check for antibodies to your thyroid and also for immune activity...IGG, IGM levels (I think it comes under compliment levels or something.
Good Luck!!
L

Immunopro is gultathione. I take it too, in the form of Renewpro. Glutathione is supposedly severely depleted in this illness.
