My sister has diabetes. In the morning she has profuse sweating. Is this a symptom of diabetes?

can be lots of things but diabetes is one of them. i was just daignosed with an enlarged thyroid and from what i understand the two diseases go hand in hand alot of times. the enlarged thyroid could be the cause of sweating also. I am either sweating most of the time when everyone else is comfortable or i am freezing. thought it was menopause for a long time but it isn't in my case.

If your sister is on medications for diabetes, it's possible that her blood sugar is actually going too low in the morning. Sweating is one common symptom of low blood sugar. She may need to adjust her medications or eat a snack before bedtime.

right on. i had a dietician tell me to eat a 15gr. carb snack before going to bed. has done wonders in keeping the sweating down during the night and my levels have been better in the morning. i suffer from the dawn phenomena so i guess the snack is regulating my sugars better through the night.

Yes, she does have hypothyroidism also, and was undiagnosed for quite some time. I have heard that untreated hypothyroidism can cause you to have diabetes. Her bloodsugar went up to 300 the other day. She is on the insulin shots.

I am also hypo and crave sweets so much when my thyroid levels go down. But, eating a lot of sweets would only make things worse I'm sure, but sure does make me feel better.Haaaa

Thank you so much for your replies. I will tell her to eat a high carb snack before going to bed.

sorry lady50, not a high carb snack a low carb one. i eat something that has between 15-20 carbs. make my own low carb muffins and that usually does the trick.

I've been a diabetic for about 10 years and I'm 31. I have had that problem for the last 4 years. When by blood sugar drops, yes I sweat, but thats not it. I also have hypothyroidism which I'm told makes me sweat. When I sweat I get very irritable which would make me this my blood sugar is dropping but its not the case. Once I kept my diabetes and my hypothyroidism in better control I felt much better.

am in the process of testing for thyropid disease. my blood work always comes out alright but through another unrelated ultrasound they found a cyst on my thyroid. after having a thyroid ultrasound it came back enlarged with multiple nodules. will have a nuclear scan done tomorrow. as many times as i mentioned my profuse sweating to all dr.s they always blamed it on my diabetes or menopause. i truly believe it is from a faulty thyroid.
