Hi Everyone!

I have been living with addisons for almost two years now. My mother has the disease as well, so I am somewhat familiar with it. There are times I just have no engery at all. I find myself getting exhausted very easily and I cant seem to make it through a half hour of cardio at the gym. Does anyone else seem to struggle with their engery levels?? Im 26 years old and I am concerned that I am too young to be feeling this way. Since I have been diagnosed I have put on over 30 pounds and lost almost 20. I go back and forth with my weight which is very frustrating since I am only 5'1.

I also have a great endocrinologist, but I find that my GP and other doctors who have treated me have no clue about the disease and they scare me even more. I feel like they think there is something else wrong with me! Its very frightening!

Anyway, any feedback would be nice! Thanks! ;)

You are the first person I have heard of who has a parent with addisons also.

Please tell us what replacement meds you use, how much for each dose & what times of day.

A good share of us struggle with lack of energy. I have had addisons since 1998 & still trying to convince myself this is just how it is going to be. I do get plenty done, but have to take breaks & just pace myself.

I take 20 mg of cortef. 15 in the morning and 5 in the afternoon and I take 1 mg of flourinef. My endo has been playing around with the dosage for the last two years. I have been feeling a little more nauseous lately, so I have a feeling he is going to increase the cortef next time around.

It might be a good idea to try Hydrocortisone, generic for Cortef, to see if it works better for you. I cannot use Cortef. Feel lousy on it. There are others with the same problem, but also some who have been on it for years. We are all different. You shouldn't be nauseous at all unless you are going into a crisis for some reason or other. Maybe you need another 5mg daily.

I would try the switch before the increase just to see if it is the Cortef.

Hope you feel better soon. Please let us know how you are doing.

Wanda
