I have a few things.

1) How can you tell if a male has HPV if there is not blood test or any form of detecting the virus in men besides the visible/visual warts/ major bumps and or redness swelling and what not. I'll be honest here. I do have some little pimples and ingrown hairs..but no one is perfect. And like I have been told and read before on this board is that sometime people just more active glands down there and sometimes that causes the pimples. and Im a pretty hairy guy so yeah. Sorry for getting off topic

2) If the HPV virus is a virus, then why is it stated that there is no cure?

3) Planters Warts are a form of HPV, I do not know exactly what strand of HPV it is, but a form of HPV none-the-less. I had a bout four of these from the hockey season nad I was always trying to get rid of them adn I started taking cats calw. It's a vitamin /homeo pathic thing. Infact, it just boosts your immune system (it's over the counter, you can order it out of a magazine and/or store. But I started taking this and it cleared up the warts I had on my foot. So in theory, with the Planters Warts being a form of HPV and the cats claw and eating healthy and what not getting rid of the warts, shouldn't it also have the same effect on the virus in some cases? See, from what I have readt he HPV Virus is a Virus and the numerous websites, doctors, The girl whom I was worried I may have gotten it from (her doctor said the immune system kills it, she also has strands 7 and 11).

I think that is all on that part and now one more thing.

I have started taking the cats claw in order to boost the immune system and drink High Vitamin C stuff and eat carrots and stuff to help me fight it off if I have it. I have no bumps beside the ones Ive had my entire life (like a pimple here, or ingrown here or piece of skin) and was wondering how do I tell If I have the Virsu if they can not do a blood test to determine wether or not males have contracted the disease? I mean, I did not have sex with her or go down on her. I had hand to genital contact and she went down on me. The doctor told her that it was very unlikely that she passed it on to me from that, but me eing paranoid has to wonder. So I started to boost my immune system. SO I asked what I wanted to and got it all out. I appreciate you guys who do answer this. ANd please do not think I am coming off as an ***.

believe me, i say the same thing.

there is no test for males, but yes they can obtain it from a female..

the only test that i can think of would be a visual test, and that's pretty much the same with women, except they can do a pap smear, and a visual.

i wish there were tests for men&women, for the same things.

maybe you should invent it.

I wish there was a test for men besides just the visual examination when they get it! They sometimes dont even know they have it , then they pass it on to people like me. Its a bunch of crap! I hope someone invents how to test males....that would be great!

i totally say the exact same thing!! They should've made a test for it on males, because it's rediculous that you can only find it on females. I mean, we all sleep with men, what if they have it? Then, we have it.. or possibly might. We might be carriers, he might be a carrier, no one knows.
Stupid ****ing doctors.

one more question...

how long would you have to wait for like the signs of HPV 7 to start showing? Besides my nervousness making me pee alot (I never read it makes you pee), I don't show any warts or discharges or what not.

It has been like more than a month since my first encounter with the carrier.

greatgoalie...

Any seasoned dermatologist will be able to tell you whether you have a current HPV outbreak via a visual inspection. If you pass that test, chances are good you don't have it. Have you been to a dermatologist? The reason there is no "blood" test is HPV is not in your blood, it's in your skin. This is not to say you can't be tested for it, you can, it's called a biopsy... but it's expensive and you're only testing the portion of skin you cut off and send into the lab. This is why women can be tested, a pap smear is sort of like a mini-biopsy... scraping off a few skin cells off the cervix. Women are at much higher risk of cancer than men (cervical cancer vs. penile cancer, ever even heard of penile cancer?) which is why the testing is available to women.

Yes, HPV is a virus, and yes, there is no cure. Just like there's no cure for AIDS, measles, chicken pox, mono, or the common cold. All there is is your immune system, and the anti-bodies it produces. A vaccine (which is just a bunch of dead or seriously weakened viruses) can be given to you, and you'll build the necessary anti-bodies in preparation of getting the actual disease. This is what prevents you from getting a lot of serious diseases that only a generation ago were maiming people, like polio.

We are living in the time of HPV. It IS an epidemic. My own dermatologist said he sees 3 new cases a day, which he says is unheard of. Merck just got FDA approval on it's first limited use vaccine Gardisil. It is only licenced for girls ages 9 to 26, but is currently undergoing testing for the general population.

What can we do? Not much, sadly. Being treated by a dermatologist will remove the warts you have so they don't spread. Boosting your immune system with a good high vitamin diet is never going to be a bad idea. Aldara also boosts your immune system's response to the virus locally, but has some side effects (redness, itching). And that's about it... hopefully in time our immune systems will beat the virus down... but it doesn't mean you can't be reinfected, or get another strain.
